What's this "always" stuff? To my recollection, there has only been 1 dark and gritty show- Beast Machines.

Ummm.... Transformers a friggin War story.

And another show airing on this toy channel is GI Joe- a war / combat show.
And, not only new, bubble-gum P/C shows, but older and possibly more violent and less P/C shows like 1980's Transformers and GI Joe.

I have seen MIB The Animated Series. It was so so.

And I don't want this series to be dark. I've had enough of writers trying to put a serious spin in my cartoons.

It's an interesting choice. I agree with some earlier posters that he is a man who knows to repect the source. Mib, extreme gb and jumanji were nice adaptations of the movie versions. We all know there are far far worse ways of doing things cough*streetfighter*cough.

That said, it's also true that those shows weren't particlarly amazing. Not the same level as say Avatar or even Ben10 ( the original. Don't knock it til you've tried it).

To the guy who suggested Bob "I turned Cybertron into a golf course" Skir, I curse you to be forever haunted by the twins.

Can you guys TEACH ME CLAIRVOYANCE into knowing a TF show will be crap without any substantial information?

Still, it's not as bad as back in late 2006/early 2007. One logo, one image and zero information from Transformers Animated unleashed a tidal wave of bile, hatred and bad language from this board and presumably every other Transformers forum.

Don't deny it. Almost all of you slagged off Animated when you first saw it without giving it a chance to prove you wrong (which it did).

Between space robots for the purposes of selling toys to children.

80s Transformers and ESPECIALLY GI Joe was hardly what one would call violent.

Entities shooting at each other with intent to destroy and kill; people fleeing buildings and vehicles before weapon blasts take them out; fighting in general.

    No violence?

    Mmmmm-kaaayyy....

I just hope that with this writing team they have a group that understands how important great villains are to an ongoing cartoon series.

I'm not worried about that... I just hope for quality writing so that a guy pushing 40 won't feel embarrassed when watching.

I have no problem watching Beast Wars or Avatar: The Last Airbender. That quality of writing and art provide a certain dignity that attract not only the young target audience, but doesn't repel us older folk either.

As long as the plot and characters engage me in the series, I'm interested in it.

I hope it has a dark feeling of an actual war, unlike Animated, but I doubt it will because of it's afternoon prime-time-slot. Which is a shame. I hope we get something eventually that is geared toward older teens/adults.

Those guys were trying to kill each other? I don't know how you get that impression. They just shot lasers at each other's feet until the bad guys ran away.

The 80's cartoon had what I like to call non-violent violence. It had the illusion of violence, but really lacked any of the subtlties that were truely, well, violent.

Gotta agree with that, the violence was mostly laughable. The only real violence was the occasional fisticuffs.

That's because it was on TV in a particular time slot. TF:TM actually followed thru where the show would have gone if it could have.

GI Joe the movie was similar.

Besides, a lot of characters took hits from weapons fire. Just becuase they didn't die doesn't mean that it wasn't violent.

Yea but think about the villains in Avatar the Last Airbender.

You've got Zuko, Azula, Mai, Ty Lee, Sparky Sparky Boom Boom Man, and assorted members of the Fire Nation all out to stop Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph. Just never seemed like the heroes had it easy when the bad guys showed up. Even the Fire Lord seemed like a tough fight for Aang so you had to wonder how he would win and still stay true to who he was.

I think the reason franchises like GI Joe were able to hang around all these years is because they had memorable bad guys. Without Cobra GI Joe would have just been a cartoon about some military guys.

That is non-violent violence. They shot lasers at each other where it had absolutely no consequence other than things exploding (sometimes inexplicably, like trees or the ground). Then the bad guys retreated.

Hardly anybody ever GOT shot in GI Joe, and damage in The Transformers didn't matter until the movie.

Animated had some dark moments in it. More so in season 3.
