Your definitions of scale seem very narrow, and seem to require magical growth of figures (or at least significant pants-forming) as they combine. That's cool.
And I'd love to learn how you've gathered the data on how many collectors collect different types of combiners. You must have done extensive research to be so certain of yourself.

I think more designers should check out the fantoys Motormaster to take lessons. My individual opinion is that rather than combining the cab and trailer into motormaster; it would be better to just transform motormaster's cab to robot. I hear the one youtube video reviewer said it took him 2 hours to transform that fantoys motormaster. I respect the engineering, but anything that takes that long to transform is a killjoy problem. (unless it were to take that long to combine all 5 to form a combiner) I value engineering as long as it doesn't go too far since I don't want the transformation to feel like a stressful test.

I wish people would treat a trailer like a trailer, rather than doing something weird like they did with the TFM version. I like the idea of having its team members being able to fit inside its trailer like optimus prime. When I was growing up I saw Motormaster like a nemesis prime and I like the idea of a leader (autobot or decepticon) helping a wounded trooper by carrying him back to base. The stunticons are a team and pretty tight and would help each other since its in their best interest as a combining team. Again, just an individual opinion.

There's a difference between requiring magical growth of figures, and having the combined form be 2 cm/1 inch shorter than just standing the figures on top of each other.

I don't have that figure, but anyone who takes that long to transform anything has no idea what they are doing.

Did he have a nap, make a snack and walk a dog during that 2 hours? That's an extreme example of someone who clearly had no idea what he was doing.

The post I was responding to responded to the observation that MotorMaster is expected to be 24-25 cm but combined height is 38ish. With a 6 inch limb-bot (15 cm, same height as MP Prowl shown in pics), that means the combiner will be shorter than the individual bots standing on each other's shoulders.

 

I lol'd at 2 hours. That's like a 5 year old trying to transform it. It takes 10 minutes tops.

After some research, I learned something: effectively all the Warbotron-style combiners (WB Bruticus, WB Computron, GT Devastator, TFM Menasor, UT Abominus, TFC Piranacon, TW Volcanicus) work exactly this way: on average, team members get more compact when they become limbs/torsos. So did the original G1 toys. Unless there's pants-forming, the combined mode is always shorter than the members stood feet-to-head.

But hey, maybe you're looking for something new that has never been done before (because you're avoiding pants-forming)? If so, that's cool. I hope you find what you're looking for.

TFM's Havoc is shorter: 37cm (14.5 in.). Rising Force's version will be taller by a smidge.
