The message about the delay was delayed. Wow.

And as already stated by SilverOptimus, the deadline for renewing that license is now going to be before ROTB releases. All the crap for ROTB with the product lines will be grandfathered in, but the inability to even turn out a film in under three years between installments at this point and the fact for the last film, Hasbro literally had to step in for Paramount just to get Bumblebee done?

There really isn't a good argument for staying with Paramount once that 2022 deadline comes up, since IIRC Hasbro's been kind of pissed at Paramount over this shit since AoE killing everybody offscreen nearly ten years ago.

It would have been far better to just shoot for a closer release on theatres and streaming to make money and get the name out, since that way Hasbro can push product sooner and money made for what is really a dying company with Paramount. As it is, I have to wonder if Hasbro was even consulted about the delay as I doubt they'd be angry about it if they'd actually had a contributing argument for it. Yes, it wouldn't make as much money, but making money of any kind to stay in the black would be a hell of a lot better than taking the greedy route and basically starving to death before you can actually reach the point of making money. And that includes making the rights holders happy and right now, Paramount's not doing that. They could still win the battle, but lose the war and the rights so to speak.

So first Universal pissed Hasbro off and now Paramount, I'm thinking Hasbro might be looking at Disney to go to next.

Maybe since they already work with them for SW's and Marvel but I could see then going to other companies like Legendary or Universal (I hope not WB since IDK how good or bad they will be with it based on how they are with certain decisions with DC). And I think Universal is likely since TF:The Ride is already a thing and they work with them already for that.

Universal isn't as likely as you think, or did you forget Universal had a deal with Hasbro once but Hasbro cut it short after Jem and the Holograms came out. Just because they have a ride at Universal doesn't mean anything because if that was the case Marvel would be Universal's and not Disney's.

@SilverOptimus Is this true? I believe the deal ends in December next year, but is there a deadline on when they can renew? I find it hard to believe that this movie will be released while no current agreement remains, I would at least expect a short term deal to be reached, if not a wait and see approach to see how ROTB performs before committing to signing a new long term contract.

Paramount currently have at least 8 other movies in development that are set be co-produced by Hasbro's Entertainment One studio, so ending the deal would leave them projects all dead in the water too. Shouldn't Hasbro be halting any further development on those movie if they plan not to renew the deal? Hasbro only just announced a host of planned projects back in February at their investor day.

With Hasbro looking to expand its media output to include multiple series based on their IPs, and Paramount looking to heavily invest in Paramount+ it seems like a deal to bring Hasbro content to the streaming service would make a lot of sense as well.

    From the original post:

Given Goldner's death, I'm pretty sure Hasbro is trying to figure out who is going to be the next CEO and right now the dude who is the Acting CEO does not have a background with movies. Think he's an investment banker or something.

Plus, as Silver also said before in an even earlier post, official documentation exists of originally delaying ROTB to December 2022, which is still past that November 2022 expiry date.

What’s to say they can’t sign a new agreement a few months after said expiry? All that states is that the current deal expires in November, not that November is the deadline for agreeing a new contract or an extension of the pre-existing one? Unless I’m missing something.

Couldn’t Hasbro say “let’s see how ROTB performs, If we are happy with the results, then we can talk about a new contract”?

It seems odd that the success of the movie will not play any part in this. If ROTB is a massive success, Hasbro won't be allowed to discuss a new deal even if they wanted to...

Would be good to get @SilverOptimus take on this, to clear things up :D

I think we need to think about the balance between an 'ideal' gross and maintaining interest in the brand.

There's no guarantee that ROTB would do a billion in a pandemic-less market, and a 2023 release puts the movie nearly 5 full years after Bumblebee released. Bumblebee was a modest success but not a mega hit or anything that people were begging for a sequel for. There's definitely a risk of people just losing interest the longer you wait. If ROTB is at least decently enjoyable it buys the franchise (in film) a few more years to continue to build on that success with another sequel and or spinoff.

Contracts are a confusing deal as I’m not sure we know if they are allowed to release movies outside of the contracts and if projects started under the contract continues after it expires. Sometimes contracts expiring kill projects that are in development.

I think delaying the movie has lost them some of the hype momentum the movie had going. They could have kept building on that as we went into the new year, would have put them on a good track for the release. Hopefully they can regain that with a good marketing campaign and giving us some updates along the way.

I think it must be disappointing for Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, & Caple Jr, too, as I'm sure they were hoping ROTB would launch them onto other projects, now they have a long wait. I think Paramount could have capitalised on some of Ramos's popularity at the moment had they released in June next year, he seems to be receiving a lot of attention currently.

It won't its too far into production and that would only put the company onto more debt

Yeah it WAY too late for that even if it just started filming it would be too late. Like if Bumblebee wasn't as far into production as it was it would have been canceled and scrapped. Crazy to imagine that movie not happening we wouldn't get any of the great stuff from that movie like Shatter, Dropkick, the G1 designs and just the movie in general, and us not being where we are now with a sequel to it.

We don't know yet but since they said the Preds. are more reptilian in nature I think either Megatron will be the leader as either Galvar or another new name or maybe a new character lead like maybe Predaking. Then maybe Dinobot or Terrorsaur since they're the only other 2 reptiles in the show. I think it they're could be some new characters or some toy only characters

I don't think there's really much info on that. I believe all we've seen of them is some insignias on Scourge's grill and a short explanation about them being reptilian when the movie was first revealed, which TF Hot Rod already pretty much summed up.

Would be kind of cool if maybe we got some reptilian characters from the toyline and I think that could be possible since Steven is a TF and saw BW when it was out and I mean we got easter eggs for Elite Guard, Mercenaries, and Wreckers with Scourge's grill (which is not to bash Bay extremely we know he isn't a fan of TF and we would have never got those easter eggs in a Bay-directed ROTB film or just TF film).

Predacons actually are the only faction whose insignias are not on Scourge's grill.

Remember the supposed leak about the Predacons being sealed in some "ancient tomb"?
Oh man. I'm not trying to start anything but I think the leaks are becoming true. Scourge probably is on his way to unlock the Predacons' tomb.
