Those animal targetmasters are awesome, such a breath of fresh air compared to G1 redo after G1 redo. Like others have already said, they remind me of the Weapon Minicons or the ones from Arms Micron. I'm cutting back on superfluous purchases but I think I might have to make an exception for them.

I see you're pretty new here, you're posting wrong...you're supposed to complain incessantly about the quality of toys aimed at younger children and constantly remind everyone how the Transformers brand is ruined forever with every new reveal.

Seriously though, seeing your positivity is a wonderful change of pace. Glad there are still some people out there capable of it!

What I find interesting is how Arcee is based on her bumblebee design.

Yeah I do know what you mean. Toys are more expensive now. Duh. I know. Everyone knows. I still think these are a better deal than 90% of the TF kid lines in the past 8 or so years.

Honestly if I was a kid this line of toys would be absolutely amazing. Yeah the armor ones look a little jank but I will always take the specificity of this type of gimmick where they are meant to combine with one thing over the more general one-size-fits-all weaponizers.

Does anyone else think it is hilariously ironic that Rhinox turns into a gatling gun... coming out of his butt?

Also, it would be nice if the actual character model in the film has his trademark chin beard and mohawk.

This seems like a more appealing mainline to me than the AOE and TLK mainlines. I tend to think the design team knew the ROTB movie designs would come off as drab with potential for being uninteresting, hence this substantial deviation for the mainline. Gimmick-wise, it seems like more thought was put into these as well, to keep them played with rather than just expecting kids to just fiddle with them and quickly forget them. Time will tell if this emphasis on being fun>forgettable proves true but it’s apparent to me.

Yea that one, especially for a Bumblebee that expensive, looks underwhelming, that sank in real quick once I saw the price as initially I was impressed by the sculpt, thinking it was a small figure. Big mainline figures with quick gimmicks haven’t been a strong point for Hasbro, I was impressed with most of what I saw today but not this(mainly due to price, that price sinks it, I’m aware most things in general have gone up in price but I’m not seeing the justification here other than Bumblebee’s popularity).

It’s sorely lacking in paint. I know most gimmicky, big mainline Transformers aimed at primarily kids are like that but for the price, more paint would’ve definitely helped at the very least on the face and around the eyes. The wheels would’ve benefitted from being pinned.

I think they've realised some of the previous gimmicks were too intrusive and trying to engineer them into a figure along with transformation didn't really work out. Making the gimmick a separate sidekick figure removes that problem, plus it allows for mixing and matching, which is great for imaginative play.

It's because the gimmick central to the line is all about cross-compatibility among the price points. It's something they've gotten a lot better about with the media lines since the days of RiD2015, and while Bee's wasn't the most creative (interchangable engine blocks)...it was certainly an attempt at a play pattern.

I don't think it's that as much as just wanting to expand the pattern outside of a few price points. People on here thought the CW playstyle intruded on the figures but it did well enough they went back to it one last time for PotP.

That's why the newer generations lines since then have had some kind of modular figure included in most waves. It's promoting inter-connectivity but letting kids guide how that plays out. It's far more expansive than the Prime Wars figures who were either limbs, torsos, or Headmasters.

It's also why they, at least for now, have never promoted an official modular combiner character. The idea has been to let kids play with the toys as they want and come up with stuff on their own. Providing an "official" combo would be somewhat limiting as most of us would likely just build that and stop there rather than experiment.

Honestly it really reminds me of her short-lived design from the War For Cybertron game minus the back wings.

Hasnro has been doing the gimmick of "oversized overpriced simplistic brick with lights and sounds and gimmicks" for like 15 years now and people are acting like it's a brand new thing. Clip on wheels? on a toy for 6 year olds? the horror! next you'll tell me it has peg holes and exposed joints! it probably doesn't even have movie-accurate paint-apps!

That blaster looks to be right down my alley.

However, as a sucker who paid legal currency for Smash Changer Optimus it's my opinion that that toy can die in a fire and you should avoid it at all costs.

The first Transformers were oversized simplistic bricks that often didn't even have lights or sounds. The only reason there wasn't a "collector line" back then was because most of the people bitching about the oversized simplistic bricks these days were too busy having fun to care.

It was only once they grew up (at least physically) and decided to wrap their entire identity in their love of a toy brand that they decided "accuracy and scale" were of the utmost importance even if it meant the same kinds of gimmicks and play patterns that first drew them in were abandoned or even outright scorned.

Because now the idea Transformers could appeal to kids is alien to them.

That's about inline with similar toys during Cyberverse.

I can't unsee it...the gun barrel and orange tip just right there in between Prime's legs... While I understand Optimus Prime sells better, I do think a Nerf style Transformer would have been better served by using Megatron, even if you'd have to make him like G2 purple and green and stuff for toy laws. It would have made more sense and probably been less uhm, distracting, for lack of a better word.
