Weirder things have happened than "movie studio decides to make more of something despite it losing money anyway", but I would expect that after this bombs their stance will be "let's see how the animated one does" in the same way Bumblebee became the experiment after TLK underperformed.

No, the "trilogy" thing came from news sites who seemed to take the quote out of context. The actual quote just said "first of three new installments".

“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will be released theatrically in 2023 and is the first of three new installments. A new animated series from @Nickelodeon arrives this fall. And in 2024, the franchise expands further with a CG animated Transformers theatrical film. #ParamountPlus”

I thought they meant trilogy too, until someone pointed this out to me a couple months ago.

It is a bit weird that they say ROTB is the "first" since Earthspark was technically released first, but maybe the quote was written before ROTB got delayed. Or it could have been referring to Angel Manuel Soto's movie and the Cybertron movie. But unless I missed something, I don't think they've ever said ROTB is the start of a trilogy. The recent interviews seem to imply they're just flying movie-by-movie, like they always have.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they said that if ROTB flops, then next year's movie will go straight to streaming, and after that, Paramount will basically give up on making movies for Transformers.
Which translates to: If ROTB fails, don't expect Transformers in theaters ever again.

Firstly, ROTB will not fail. Secondly, the franchise's last hope will be Reactivate and TF One. ROTB's marketing has done a splendid job in May, it WILL NOT fail.

I really hope that SS Nightbird has a jetpack like the movie, especially since they're going for accuracy

To be fair to Marvel, Transformers had the opportunity to build on their universe and they never did. Instead they were content just making popcorn flicks with zero forward thinking until it was too late.

Now they are getting to build something, but they basically have to start from scratch on a world where there is ALOT of competition.

If they are conservative in their planning I think they will be okay

Just added a bit of silver lining to my post to not add to the doom and gloom. I think we will be fine as long as we manage expectations.
