To repeat, I'm not a bay fan. I just don't think either Bay or g1 is good.

It was a successful reboot because kids loved it and it made a lot of money. If that annoys you then skill issue I guess, call it a "lame reboot" if that makes you feel better

Then without trying to pull rank, you can take a look at my previous post on that era, as someone who was... well... here... at that time. Subjective experience, etc. but that's definitely the way things looked to me during that period. Transformers wasn't dead, Animated was an alternative in case the movie flopped, the delays and then success of the movie led to Hasbro pivoting in terms of product releases, but there were always other trends going on beyond the movie, etc.

Edit: just caught up on posts. Kudos on owning up.

To build on this, some of the later AEC era repaints originally planned for the AllSpark Power line were later released as part of the Universe 2.0 line with the AllSpark Baby Blue paint apps omitted. That's why we got realistic looking decos of absolute nobody characters like Dropshot (repainted Cyb. Def. Scattorshot) and Heavy Load (repainted Cybertron Quickmix) as the first wave, along with the 'Peanut Butter' Vector Prime and Leo Prime repaints later, both using the Cybertron Vector Prime and Leobreaker molds.

Its also evident that they're not repacks since the smaller scout robots from Energon and Cybertron all have 'S7' logo markings, which obviously wouldn't have existed before 2007, and the Cybertron figures have a silver movie style faction symbol on their cyber planet keys even though the molded symbol underneath is the classic style. If they were straight repacks, the faction symbol paint apps wouldn't have changed.

Only 2 designs I have a problem with are Optimus and Wheeljack. Both purely because the designs themselves are just ugly to me in certain areas. It’s not even them being different like the bay films were, I just don’t like how they are designed.

My exact thoughts as well. Prime has somewhat grown on me though, like I don't hate it as much but I still pray they've adjusted his render. Wheeljack though. Good God that face.

Buddy, pal, You don't need to believe something that is straight up fact. I hate to tell you this, and this may shock you, but Transformers, the toys, and the majority of the media, is in fact, intended for children (gasp) and its ok to acknowledge it, you don't have to be insecure about liking them, we all do(presumably). pretending like they're anything more than that just makes you seem like you take yourself too seriously to enjoy something that's for kids.

I just wish the movies remembered that, since don't forget we had stuff like Weed Brownies and the ever infamous 'Romeo and Juliet card' scenes. Subject matter that I don't think parents really want their kids knowing about to be quite frank.

At the end of the day, we’re arguing about big budget films that are made to sell toys, one of which hasn’t even been released yet. Let’s get this thread back on topic so the mods don’t nuke it.

Well... Would "Bay doesn't even have the depth and nuance of the g1 cartoon" sound better? Bay doesn't even have the nuance of UT, much less G1. But if interpreting nuance isn't your strong suit, try watching interviews with the creators of G1 back to back with interviews with Bay and Lorenzo. Someone does actually bring up Shakespeare a lot, in regards to how the story and the character dynamics are structured (again, nuance), while the other just talks about how big... their VFX department is.

Buddy pal... Star Wars was made to sell toys as well. Batman is intended for kids. When will this non-argument stop? Everything is made to make money one way or another. Commercial art, is, or at least, can be just as culturally and spiritually valuable as non commercial, or any kind of art we can produce. And animation is one of the greatest means of storytelling we have as a species. If you don't think so, then there's nothing to argue about here, because you don't see value in it as an adult. We have no basic for discussion, and, you, essentially, have no reason to even be here.

bringing up shakespeare in an interview does not mean the actual cartoon is remotely related to shakespeare. both bay and the g1 cartoon are mid, this attempt to place one over the other is silly. theyre both mediocre in their own way.

Since they’re introducing the idea of Stratosphere transporting Autobots around the globe, wouldn’t it be cool if ROTF Depth Charge also got a little cameo in this new trilogy of films? Although maybe with a different name since live action BW Depth Charge is now a possibility? I just love the idea of the old concept characters actually making it to the big screen in some capacity.

Imagine ROTF Springer appearing but with a bit more of a G1 blend. Still turns into an Osprey, but with a second land or sea based alt added and a dark green color scheme of some kind. Also a cleaner robot mode that’s a bit more humanoid and less….hole filled. Honestly the legs are the only thing I don’t really like on this design. They’re just scrawny looking in comparison to his beefy upper body.

DOTM Warpath wouldn’t need a single change made to his design. He’s perfect as is.

Thread cleaned and reopened. Some thread bans have gone out, and any further jackassery will be met with thread bans as needed.

The adversarial atmosphere here is done. If you can't discuss your differences/opinions without dropping to insults (vague or not) and off topic nonsense, you won't be allowed to do it at all.

    1. No Insults, Trolling, Flaming, Name Calling, Harassing, Etc.
We will not tolerate insults, excessive profanity or throwing a topic off course. Use of racial, bigoted, sexist, or discriminatory terms or phrases is not accepted. Posts intended solely to antagonize others are not accepted. Keep topics/posts where they belong. Generally, “play nice”.

    13. No Disruptive Posting or Flamebaiting
Do not purposely post anything which will cause another member (or members) to react negatively. This is subjective. The TFW2005 staff will evaluate the trend of posts made by those consistently being reported or those that are repeatedly involved with arguments on the site. If their overall method or content of posting leads to staff attention repeatedly, we reserve the right to warn, infract and/or ban accordingly.

Honestly, I genuinely think the movie will be bad. But I don't think it will be the "fall of transformers as we know it" some have made themselves believe. I just hope I atleast enjoy it even if it will be bad. Cause a bad movie to me is much better than a boring slog. Also while I don't really have much interest to the characters I may get some of them.
