Yeah I’m not sure what’s with the constant TLK comparison. I mean, really. For ROTB we’ve had a teaser in December, a Super Bowl spot, and recent posters. This is normal for.. any movie?

Is it? I don’t think so. Both have way more potential to be interesting characters imo. I loved Drift in AOE and TLJ. He’s one of my favorite TF designs. So cool. And I’m really looking forward to Nightbird.  

 

If we’re talking about character potential then I’d say they’re all on even ground. You can do tons of interesting things with Prowl even though his G1 variant isn’t particularly memorable.

 

Fair. I think I’m more down for choosing very obscure TFs for the films as opposed to the G1 season 1 and 2 rosters. I just feel like these bots have been done to death. Like please. Let them rest.

 

Understandable. I like to see the G1 roster but with certain characters swapped out for variants from other series. Really liked Bee Movie Thrust rocking his Armada colors. Stuff like that makes it clear that the filmmakers actually know just a little bit more than the bare minimum. Sometimes at least.

Hmm. You know what, what’s everyone’s preference? Bayverse Thrust or Bee Movie Thrust?

Came across this. I honestly think what made the first movie extremely amazing was that there were passionate people working behind the vfx.

I hope this is the case with ROTB cause Caple Jr and Ramos were fans of BW growing up. I reckon ROTB will be better than the bayverse movies and hopefully better than Bumblebee.

 

ILM LOVES working on the TF films. They made multiple custom softwares and plugins just for these movies. Many animators, modellers, like the one in the pic has figures on their desks.

 

If Beast Megatron shows up in this film... Maybe he will be in his alligator body and his name will be "Skullcruncher" since the Decepticon leader himself hasn't appeared?

Thats gonna be the dumbest way to complain about the movie. Still sad that most can’t get a grip on why the WJ thing is gonna get crap regardless how the movie ends up being.

I think a good comparison from Bumblebee is not how Wheeljack looked there but rather seeing how the one character in that movie didn’t look nowhere near his G1 appearance. That being Blitzwing. They gave him Ramjet’s colors, A generic seeker head, and didn’t end up making him a triple changer when the concept was being established in that movie with Dropkick and Shatter. Blitzwing would end up being a minor character that gets killed after one scene so they never intended to make anything out of him other than a generic jobber.

However they never established him looking like his G1 self during the Cybertron scenes. Wheeljack could been on the same boat in ROTB with minor backlash had he not showed up in Bumblebee looking exactly like his familiar G1 appearance.

 

Wheeljack was in Bumblebee for all of four seconds, was not named, and had one generic line of dialogue.

I think it's fine if the filmmakers of this movie wanted to craft their own version of Wheeljack from scratch.

Personally, I think he looks dumb. But if Wheeljack does get flack, it should be for looking dumb on his own merits and not based on his adherence (or lack thereof) to a last minute design that was on screen for four seconds in the previous movie.

 

If they wanted to give Wheeljack a head that doesn't look like the G1/BBM incarnation they should've given him a head that looks like an inventor with a welding helmet (with a mustache too!), rather than a head which looks like a mix of Steve Urkel and Elton John.

 

You do make a good argument. What I don't understand is why Optimus, Arcee and BB are relatively the same as from the BB movie, while WJ was changed. Arcee too was not named and had one line. Still hoping the redesign rumors are true, but if not: Hope his portrayal is good. I can overlook the design if his character is a blast.

 

That's also a good argument. Optimus and Bee are relatively consistent, and even if Arcee wasn't directly based off the BBM Arcee, she's based on G1 Arcee enough that there are plenty of similarities. And Mirage has at least some G1 basis too. So Wheeljack sticks out as being the only one of the Autobot crew to have zero basis on a previous version.
