Not the news I wanted to wake up to. Animated was appointment television for me and one of the damned best Transformers shows. Thank you, Derrick. So damned young. WAY too young!

This is deeply unfortunate. He had quite a creative vision and it shows that he put so much passion into his work. Animated was a great addition to the franchise that shaped many childhoods, including mine. My condolences to his friends and family.

Whatever misgivings I have about his creative decisions(i.e. Not liking/including Primus. Or his story choices in Ben 10 Omniverse) I still loved his animation and the shows he made. Teen Titans Transformers Animated and Omniverse will still be some of my favorite shows I like to look back on. REST IN PEACE DJW
Can’t believe what I’m reading. I would scroll his twitter time to time hoping to see any Transformers Animated content. His talent and impact on the franchise were immeasurable. Rest In Peace, till all are one.
Derrick was cool. RIP. Thanks for TFA. I wonder if he had any blood clots or heart failure? There has been a lot of that going around lately.
Sad news. I can't say I really knew much about the man himself. I haven't read many interviews he's taken, or his twitter feed. Even with the little I do know of him, I know he was a talented, passionate creative. He seemed like a really nice guy too. He frequently took time to talk to fans, and he never came across as jaded or burned out. Hearing about someone dying at an early age is just so sad. My condolences to his family and friends. I'll always treasure what he contributed to Transformers. I'll read through my complete Allspark Almanac later today to remember some of his work.
that is sad, I followed him on Instagram, clearly a huge fan himself and a fantastic artist across so many different shows!
WOW. DJW. Even though I was already in my 20s, I loved his Teen Titans show, and then he helped create probably the most rich and imaginative TF continuity. The Animated show is great enough, but the Allspark Almanacs are so fun to read too, full of so many references it’s almost impossible to keep track of them all. Animated is the only TF continuity other than G1 where I’ve been motivated to focus my toy collection; only need Stealth Lockdown to have all the regular toys (that is, not including Bumper Battlers and Activators). Having DJW’s designs in transformable toy form is a miracle of engineering.
Tragic to hear. Animated kept me hooked on to the franchise after the Unicron Trilogy came to an end. RIP and condolences to his family and loved ones.
This is tragic, animated REALLY got me back into transformers after not really buying anything much aside from 1 or 2 random figures since I was a kid. LOVED the style and all about animated, and you could tell the passion involved for the brand characters and lore. Ended up buying the whole line (Inc not on full set posted internationally) Such sad news, my condolences to his family. 3 years older than me to have died (as I’m understanding it from Twitter) “suddenly unexpectedly” earlier this month at 49 years old, tragedy :-(
did you see that on CNN? No-one should be speculating that this tragedy was attributed to covid, or is that the only cause of death still these days? Rest in peace Derrick
