Rest in piece to the guy who is basically responsible for my love of this brand. You done good, Derrick. We'll miss you.
RIP Derrick and condolences to his family. Everybody can tell how much passion he had for his work and it showed in the final products like TF Animated and Teen Titans. Being a TF fan he made sure to put fun easter eggs all over the place and really make a great show for fans and everybody. Surely he was a great person and it's terrible to hear this.
He was responsible for Transformers Animated, Teen Titans, Ben 10 Omniverse and Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. So many classic cartoons that were big parts of our childhoods. While his designs may have been controversial amongst their respective fanbases at the time, there's a reason why we still remember them even after all these years. Wyatt had a distinct artstyle that gave all his characters personality and made his cartoons stand out from the crowd. I'm completely heartbroken right now. Rest well.
Absolutely gutted to hear of DJW's recent passing. His style made a huge impact on how I draw Transformers and was a huge inspiration for me! His style broke expectations and made you see things in a much newer and varied way. His creativity and sense of imagination made all the shows he worked on absolute gems! He brought a breath of fresh air and fun to the series he worked on all while balancing it with the reverence of a genuine fan; he knew what it was that made these series good. I want to say he was also part of the first wave of creators to prominently interact with fans, at least from a Transformers fandom perspective. I remember him using his blog, A Delightful Tedium, along with Twitter to really engage with fans while Transformers Animated was still airing and he continued to do so. I was fortunate enough to meet him at a few TFCons starting in 2010, in fact I want to say he was the very first convention guest I ever met. I still remember him hosting a little TFA quiz game that I was in at that very first TFCon I attended. I was also really fortunate to get a TFA Tankor sketch from him; my favourite Transformers character. Recently near the start of pandemic he did a lot of collab art streams with Josh Perez where they would primarily focus on creating the Shattered Glass counterparts of the members of the TFA cast. Those streams were an absolute blast and it’s hard to believe they’ll never happen again. Thank you Derrick for the rich contribution you made to Transformers as a whole and for all the work and art you did! You will be missed!
Wow,I still can\'t believe that another legend is gone, I really loved animated and it\'s my 4th favorite Transformers show, hope that he lived a good life.
Derrick was such a great person and it was clear how much he loved everything he worked on. He'll be missed by so many, and even by those that didn't know who he was.
I just don’t know how to adequately put my feelings into words right now. Thank you for everything you gave to the world, Mr. Wyatt. Rest in peace. Deepest condolences to his family and friends.
I don't have many words to say regarding this, but it's a genuine shame that he had to pass on so soon. He seemed like a nice guy, his art-style was amazing and unique in regards to Transformers, and likely helped many people in the fandom, either by getting them into it, or influencing them in some way or another. Real sad that the dude had to go. Hopefully, even after he's gone, he continues to spread joy through his work.
My thoughts go out to his family and all the people closest to him. Knowing the artistic talent that he was, was such a real treat to behold. After getting to know him during the mid 2000's at BotCon and over so many years later. Hanging with him was the best part of my experiences with Derek. At BotCon 08 he did a little extra special art piece for me on my figure which I attached that I wanted to share. Was really awesome that he had drawn the earth mode robot head on the Cybertron mode figure box. Love and miss you Derek. Till All Are One!!! KRAPICON
This is tragic news. Derrick was a great talent, and on top of that he was so lovely to fans. He leaves behind a great legacy with TFA. RIP.
I've been trying to think of what to say for a while now. It's hard to put this feeling into words. He will be missed for sure. I loved TF Animated and many of his other works.
