This is deeply saddening news. His art was (and still is) a huge inspiration of mine and even influenced a lot of my work today. I always appreciated his passion for whatever he worked on whether it be Transformers, Ben 10 Omniverse, or even Scooby-Doo. He always found the perfect way to respect what came before while also adding new and unique takes to characters we all know and love. TFA was my G1 and without him I wouldn't be here today. Thank you, Derrick, and may you rest in peace.
Holy shit. Not only did he do something fresh with Transformers, he also brought the same charm to Ben 10 and worked on the best Scoobie-Doo series to date. His work will forever be appreciated by his fans and those who enjoyed his works.
This is a real pain to hear today specially since I am not doing the best myself. RIP Derrick and thanks for all the memories Hope the best for his family.

Never had the privilege to meet Derrick, but still feel absolutely gutted by this news. So sorry for his family, friends and loved ones! He was the man behind the art of my favorite Transformers show, and a big influence on my own career outside of this hobby. His work showed me there’s still a definite space for the more fun, colorful, wonky and streamlined designs in the same vein as, for example. Bruce Timm - which was exactly what I needed to feel in a time of insecurity in my work.
Absolutely heartbreaking. Met him a number of times and spoke online, really nice guy and I loved his work. This one hurts.
Damn. Animated was easily the highest-quality TF show we've ever gotten and I always loved how enthusiastic Derrick was and how he seemed to enjoy interacting with fans.
Jesus Christ, this was not something I was expecting... You gave us one of the best TF shows, the phenomenal Teen Titans plus easily the best version of Scooby Doo. You will be sorely missed good sir.

Wow. I had to do a double take when I saw this news on Twitter. He was behind a lot of shows that I watched when I was growing up like Ben 10 Omniverse, TF Animated, Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc and Teen Titans. Crazy. RIP.
I haven't watched Teen Titans since it went off the air when I was 13. I had no idea that he was the character designer, and looking at design sheets now I'm surprised my brain never made the connection
We lost the heart and soul behind one of the best TF series ever. I don’t think any TF series has had the same level of thought and personality injected into its designs since. Rest in peace.
