Took these this weekend to send to my brother. We’ve been kind of obsessed with RiD Car Robots lately.
Well, honestly, I always have been. :D
(Sorry two of the limbs on Baldigus/Ruination are wrong in these. Haha)
When I worked as a bank teller in 2001 I would schedule my lunch breaks for when RiD was on and go watch it in the break room.
    Happy Birthday, RiD!!!!

    Happy birthday!

If I recall correctly, it was looking for these 5MB stamp sized Car Robots videos that originally brought me to this site.

And Car Robots brought me back into TFs, including ordering for the first time from abroad, Japan no less (HLJ at that time) to get the super versions of the car brothers.

I must say, while I appreciate the US version of the show, I was super bummed out when that first episode kicked off and that music played. It's very representative of the time, and executed well for what it is - but the Japanese versions were SOOO much better.

The generic robo voice stuff throughout the show always bugged me as being cheap.

Still fun toys to this day. Optimus Prime in particular. We need more Optimus Prime fire engine toys instead of only tractor trailers. To paraphrase Neil Kaplan: RiD Optimus Prime was a hero all the time, whereas G1 Optimus was hauling broccoli until he was needed…

I tried to give this series a run and just couldnt stomach it. Too much bad comedy. Sky-bytes poems were the worst, but the trio of predacon dumb animals were pretty bad too. Megatron as a giant hand was pretty bad too.

    Nice write-up.

I had missed out on BW/BM. I saw the RID Prowl toy in EB Games of all places and got it.
I later got Fire convoy/Magnus, Gigatron and loved the mix of new and old molds, vehicle and beasts!

The show was fun. I always liked it as a goofier new take on G1.
Neil Kaplan is my second favorite Optimus Prime voice actor.

It's better in Japanese. When you don't understand Japanese. :)

Kind of a pity they picked up a lot of offshoot toys.  I wouldn\'t mind Legacy or whatever taking another swing at more from this era.  Some would do well with new looks reflecting what modern toy engineering can do.  A number of them were faithful to the toys and even animated it didn\'t flatter.

I didn't grow up with RiD but I love it, it's so different from everything else. I'd love for them to acknowledge the series in Legacy. Some great designs in there (love you RiD Scourge)

Yeah I always wished the RID characters based off old molds could get updates more in scale and quality of the rest of the line. Give me all the Spychangers as Deluxes!

There wouldn't be a TFW2005 without RID, so I'm happy to celebrate the series. 20 years is a big accomplishment. Now if only the appropriate licensures would stop sitting on their hands and actually release a remastered copy of this series, I think we'd all be happy.

RID was a little before my time, but over the years as I've been exposed to more of it I've grown to love it. While Scourge is exciting, I hope we see more than just him in Legacy. UW Baldigus reissue maybe?
