It's pretty common knowledge that the tires for the 2001 RID figures are a disaster. I have pretty much all of them, and at last check Prime, Magnus, and X-Brawn (original deco) all had significant cracking. X-Brawn is probably the worst. It's always bugged me as the figures are otherwise pretty great. Here's what I'd like to know. First, if you have any of these figures have you experienced cracks on the tires or not? If so, would you be interested in buying replacement tires if they were manufactured? It just seems like a problem that someone needs to solve. Discuss!
Last time I checked my Magnus he did have cracking. X-Brawn and Sideburn though seemed fine. That was 5 years ago though so I kind am hesitant to check those two again. Not against having some sort of tire replacement, but being a Hess Truck collector and having lost many a tire, I've kind of gotten used to not having rubber tires. Maybe swap rubber for plastic ones or something similar to rubber but not as fragile.
eventually i'm buying an rid prime, and roulette and shadow striker. i dunno if the twins use rubber tires but if they do i'd buy plastic replacement wheels in a heartbeat for them and prime.
My Sideburn, Prowl, and Botcon Sideswipe are all fine, but my oldest copies of Magnus and Prime had their tires crack off many years ago, and I sold my replacements. My X-brawn's problem was his chrome, which started to flake off a couple of years after I purchased him in 2001, he's long been relegated to the "junk" bin that I occasionally mine for parts and accessories, but I imagine his tires have not fared well. In short, yeah some plastic replacement tires would be great for those who still have the figures. I'd also like some replacement parts for the chrome pieces on certain RID figures, they were notoriously flaky.
I have an Optimus Prime, but I haven't experienced any cracking. I would definitely be interested in replacements in case they do begin to crack, or if the wheels on the Ultra Magnus I'm getting end up to be cracked.
Free idea: There are there are companies that make silicone injected parts. If you gave them some original tires and showed them the wheels the replacement parts would fit on it would actually be more info than they get from a lot of clients. Sell them in baggies. I don't have the capitol to start it but someone should do it.
