Brief thoughts that came while reading the issue: I LOVE the timeline at the beginning of the book. Giving us actual years for many of the events (especially the Adventure Team stuff) is so cool. I find Rom's "I work best alone" line kinda headscratching considering at the start of his series he wanted to find allies to help him, but considering his experiences on Earth and the fact that Space Knights normally travel in pairs, I can see past it. Kinda disappointed Kup went back to his 86 design. I really liked him having an Earth truck mode. I really want to see what happened to Blackrock after Titans Return and how he changed his Cybertronian form. All in all, this was a great done-in-one issue, while still setting up future storylines. Has a very Brave and the Bold feel to it. This is John Barber at his best, and hey, it featured my favorite character as a guest star. And as a fan of the Adventure Team, I like that we'll be seeing some of their history in the book as well. Can't wait for issue 2.
Did the physical release include the Sgt. Savage back up strip? The comixology version didn't have it and I want to check if it's limited to the digital version or if it wasn't included at all.
Kup didn't go back to his '86 design - that's his Titans Returns design. Which is based on the '86 design, but still different. Pretty good issue overall, really liked the art. But uh ... Cobra has been around since the 1300s and Dante Alighieri was a Cobra Agent?
Yeah, in the IDW continuity, Cobra is kind of a Templar-esque ancient organization dating back centuries.
The IDW version of Cobra was established as secretive cabal that had been around for centuries, or it was up until the Cobra Command storyline.
This was fast-paced, but I think it worked out well; I certainly prefer this over those books where it takes like six issues for the team to come together. I loved the team's interactions, but man, I wish the regular Oktober Guard was as interesting as the TvJ version. Still, a great start for what looks to be a very fun book. Looking forward to all of the characters and places we'll be seeing!
I still haven't been able to read the full issue yet... It's not on the IDW app, and it is on the Transformers one, only the price button shows "Error".
All in all a pretty good first issue. Fico Ossio's getting much better at drawing Transformers but he still has some issues with scale. Kup looked way bigger than he should be in a few panels. And I look forward to seeing more of the Cobra moon base.
I'm intrigued by including the Civil War on the timeline. There's only one Civil War-era thing, and that's Hearts of Steel... Which we know they're going to include somehow. But I'm very intrigued by how they might do it.
Was finally able to read the issue today. This was a fun comic. I love the idea of a rotating secondary cast. I also loved the timeline in the beginning of the issue. I can't wait for the next issue now.
