Not a fan of TNT and Plutonia personally, very uneven and often obnoxious just for the sake it. I won't knock them though as the dudes that made them weren't professionals at the time and they are an impressive bit of work considering that. Still haven't got round to playing Romero's Sigil yet.
For a couple of fan-made WADs I enjoyed them both, but I went into them knowing their reputations. I also played Plutonia on medium difficulty. I liked Sigil. I'd say it was Romero back in fine form. Not his best but returning to make levels twenty years later your outlook will be different.
It’s pretty apparent that the maps vary hugely in terms of quality and if I had to pay for these levels as expensive DLC I would probably be really critical of them but right now I’m just really happy about having loads of free and enjoyable stuff to play through. When I first got these doom reissues I didn’t think to look in the add on section of the menu and instead just played through the main campaign maps but I’m so glad I looked in to it. I’m sure if these doom reissues were digital eclipse releases they would have made a big deal over including this extra content but these seem to give you loads without making much fuss. I started playing through a few maps on Sigil and whilst it’s way too early to get a descent opinion on them, what I did play was pretty sneaky and cruel, which definitely appealed to me as at least they had some personality to inflict cruelty on you with.
Started on Tomb Raider 2 a few days ago. I’m 3 levels into it so far & everything is going pretty well. I haven’t played any of the classic TR games since they were new back in the 90s, and I don’t remember hardly anything. But the puzzles aren’t as hard as I remember, and the levels don’t leave me feeling as lost as I remember. So far… So that’s good. I was checking out the upcoming levels and I’m surprised how much of it seems to be set in more modern settings. Exploring Venice, Italy is alright, but I’d prefer something more tomb-esque.
I recently played Return to Monkey Island, now I'm hooked again with point and click Adventures and theres plenty I never came around to play since the 90s. Currently I'm playing Monkey Island 3
Not sure what you guys and gals think about optical drive emulators, but I think they're great. Have them installed in most of my consoles and this allows me to enjoy retro gaming on real hardware while my physical media rots away, untouched on my gaming room shelves So anyway, I am getting a Fenrir ODE today for my Sega Saturn. Pretty excited to see how it works, as I had a Terraonion MODE ODE before.
I like all the stuff that manages to use the old hardware, but I'm more inclined to get one of those cart or hdd inserts that does the same thing as the optical drive replacements. all my drives are still good, except for my ps3...which is odd because it's one of the more recent ones and my ps1 and saturn are still kicking. anyone done a ps3 optical drive swap? there is a bit of info online but I gotta hunt my model # down. it's the mgs4 big fatty.
Small story time of me being dumb as a teenager, and why my post is showing my recent retro purchase. When I was a teen I traded my friend my original childhood copy of “Legend Of Zelda A Link To The Past” in exchange for Yu-Gi-oh cards. Now many many years later as a adult I collect games of all kinds more than any other hobby. Recently I’ve begun a custom project to turn a original (but converted) Donkey Kong Junior arcade machine into a Custom Legend Of Zelda arcade. The internal will actually use a SNES system to play “Legend Of Zelda A Link To The Past” I didn’t have a physical copy of the snes title(only downloaded somewhere if I remember, maybe on my Nintendo Wii?) Anyway I found a AMAZING deal for a complete original copy that has now finally arrived. The best part is my friend is trading back my original cartridge in exchange for this better condition one (label is a tab better) So I’ll FINALLY be able to play my Childhood cartridge on my custom arcade (when finished of course) also included pics of the copy that arrived, my current progress on the custom, and link to the radicons page also excuse the tiny paint wear at the top, that won’t be visible once the control deck is inserted into the cabinet. That is where it will have wear, and won’t be visible anyway. Non-TF: - Project “Hyrule”
Ok, I’m late to the party. I only found out about an hour ago. the SG mini 2 is shipped from Japan as it says on Amazon but it will be NA version, correct?
Any light gun collectors out there? After many many years of not playing my guncon collection. I finally got off my ass and bought some conversion cables to play Light gun games on my PVM. Yes, I could have easily picked up an old CRT (I actually have an early 2000’s 27” WEGA at my parents place still), but I really wanted to see the games at their max potential on the PVM. Got some cables on eBay from Europe and well…….I couldn’t be happier!
tg16 cores dropped for analogue pocket, might finally be time to preorder that thing now that the adapters aren't really needed unless you use physical media. I was just planning on shoving the turbo everdrive in there with the adapter, so this is even better. if you haven't been following, snes & gen dropped a few weeks back too. again unless you really want to play physical media on it, you can just get the cores and run all those systems finally perfectly on a portable.
I’m constantly looking for crt from thrift stores and garage sales. I have 5 with 3 in use currently. Mostly playing zapper and super scope games. That scope is a battery vampire. Hooray for rechargeable batteries!
I was looking for some CRTs for a time, but at seems at the time everyone started looking for them. Then I went FPGA. But that doesn't help me with the problem of my PS1+PS2 and light gun. I wish they would make some cool guns for PS4/PS5. I don't like how they do it nowadays just with these move controllers inside gun shells. I had this real cool looking light gun that looks like a lawgiver and worked for Saturn and Playstation. I want a gun like that to play these games found it, that was the one I had:
I just found this Sinden Lightgun With Recoil But then I remembered, I read about a kickstarter gun like that some years ago, but that one worked only on PC. Is that the same gun? Because I cannot figure out if this one works for Playstation 4/5. edit: Guess that was the gun...
The Wii and Wii U are worth mentioning for light gun type games for HDTV. House of the Dead 2&3 and Ghost Squad in particular. They have adjustable settings specifically to tighten the aiming grid for whatever size TV you're on. For gun shells for the Wii-mote, I would recommend either the Nyko Perfect Shot or the official Wii Zapper. The Zapper's probably better at balancing the wii-mote so you don't stress your hand, but the Nyko looks and feels more like a legit light gun, and the wii-mote isn't set too far forward while in it. That's something to watch for with wii light-gun shells because there's a literal ton of variants of them out there, some of which look really awesome. However, a lot of them set the wii-mote way forward with no counter balance so you're feeling the full weight of the wii-mote pulling down on your wrist. Which means your game session gets tiring long before it should.
I do also picked up a wii zapper to play Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles, it is the best way to play those games. Still looking for Ghost Squad though.
