Question for y'all: I'm moving into a new house, and I'm getting ready to get my NES out of storage and kickstart my cart collection. (So far, I have SMB/Duck Hunt and SMB 2-3.) What are some games I absolutely must have for the NES? I'm absolutely open to (and encourage) suggestions for games not developed by Nintendo.

    MetalRyde's list is excellent.

My additional recommendations would include Crystalis, the Guardian Legend (two all time favorites), Kirby's Adventure, Blaster Master, and Star Tropics.

    KING'S KNIGHT?? Seriously, King's Knight?

I'll add most anything by Capcom (Ducktales, Chip and Dale, Darkwing, Gargoyle's Quest II, Little Nemo) or Konami (Jackal, Rush N' Attack, Gradius, Life Force) and Sunsoft (Batman, Journey to Silius, Blaster Master, Gremlins 2). I also always recommend StarTropics (even though it's by Nintendo) but it's still relatively cheap and a great forgotten IP.

when i was little, i never thought that the game was unnecessarily tough. i just thought my gaming skills were weak.

i never made it to the final level. this is the first time seeing it. why didn't i search for it on youtube before? hell if i know why.

    Ebay:
Also some key sports titles, even though sports games get a bad rap, generally:

    Blades of Steel
    Super Dodgeball
    Baseball Stars 1 and 2
    RC Pro-Am
Probably Tecmo Bowl as well. From what I've heard..

I'm a little pumped today - nothing terribly special, but I got a Gameboy, nice and minty amd working, along with a very nineties case and a magnifying attachment for $35 Canadian at a flea market!

Also making headway on a little retro gaming area/collection room... :)

    legend of Zelda, always fun

Crystalis, rpg for SNK, very fun

metriod, always welcome to a collection

Turtles 2 and 3, two player goodness

    Abadox, personal Fave

    Pinball, simple but fun

Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, amazing, but unforgiving

    River city Ransom, awesome

At least One Mega Man game , there's six, so it should be easy (Have the third game, personally)

Got my super mario rpg in from gamestop. Label a bit rough on the edge, but otherwise a very good copy and game still plays fine and saves great.

Overall a good $38 bucks spent. The saturn model 2 (curved) pad I got was in great shape too. Another win from gamestop retro!

This weekend, I got the long-awaited HD Retrovision component cables for SNES and Genesis/Megadrive that I backed on Kickstarter last year.

None of them will work for me

I know my TV can display a 240p image from component, because I've tested it with PS1 games over component on my PS2, and with 240p WiiWare games over component when I still had my original Wii hooked up. However, it's possible that it only accepts 240p by starting from 480i or 480p and having the sync timing changed afterwards... which both of those consoles do. It's also remotely possible that all three of my cables are dead on arrival. I'll have to wait until Friday to test on a friend's TV that we know is compatible.

Ouch, I just went with the RetroN, worked just fine(Aside from the very tight grip the pin port has on the carts)

Sure, but I already have ways to run RetroArch. I like to use real hardware sometimes.

I feel like Turtles 1 should be a must-have, too - even though it's not as good as its sequels, and the water level is ridiculously difficult, you kind of have to have it, especially since you can probably get it for five bucks or less... Just to experience it first hand, lol. And it was a very important game to have back in the day, too, a real part of owning an NES in the '80s. :)

I'd say Mega Man 2 would be the one to get if you were only getting one of them, but 3 would be next in line for sure!

If I had to pick two MegaMan games on the NES, I would actually choose 2 and 5. None of them are a bad choice, but 2 and 5 are the best examples of really tight, solid, finished level design in my opinion.

Exactly the ones I would pick. 2 & 5 are my favorites of the series.

So, Super Retro Trio, yay or nay?
Found a store near where I just moved that has one for $70. It seems to have good reviews, and might fit my needs (I have no need for Famicom or Super Famicom compatibility).

you might check on amazon for a better price, or more reviews, might also consider the RetroN 3, same compatibility, able to use game genie, and last i checked, about $50-60, the ports are on the sides instead of the front, and the adapter and av cables might be a touch short.
