I find it quite funny how, back in the 80's, the cassette tape was considered 'advanced'...and the Transformer tapes reflected that. But now cassette it old and outdated.

If Soundwave's and Blaster's tapes were redesigned to today's 'advanded' removable media, which would they transform into?. a CD?..a minidisc?, SD/MMC/CF card? Maybe a hard drive? XD. Just a thought.

Mini discs would probably work best for making figures from.

That's TF Movie info, for the sake of clarification.

I'm more interested in the (rumored) Soundwave toy for the 'Classics' line. Since Megs is supposedly a gun for this line, it stands to reason Soundwave will be a tape deck, or an electronic device of some kind

Big problem with most modern storage media for portable devices is that they don't have a lot of mass to accomodate transformation to a robot (toy-wise)

Maybe Soundwave as a PSP, and the 'casettes' as UMD discs?

How about some advanced computer setup for Soundwave and Blaster, and the tapes as removable harddrives? If that's the case, then Soundwve and Blaster wouldn't necessarily need to be computers, just anything that could reasonably take a removable/portable HD.

I like the idea of Soundwave as a pickup truck and the "cassettes" as being small motorbikes and 3 or 4 wheelers..

Soundwave as a surveilance(sp?) Van and Rumble, Frenzy, Lazerbeak, Buzzsaw, Rat-Bat, Ravage .etc as Colour coded Briefcases.
(Long shot I know, but it sorts out the mass problem, My only other idea was some sort of missile truck, but thats just because Missile Trucks look cool)

I heard Soundwave will have three forms in the movie (all of which I'm sure will get toy treatment): A cybertronian form, a helicopter, and a "musical device" (at the request of Hasbro).

Personally I'd be fine with a CD player and his cassettes as really thick CDs. We get the idea. I suppose he could be an iPod with Rumble and Frenzy as iPod accessories (?!)

Yup. The irony is that nowadays many of these portable media storage devices are TOO small.

Maybe not Soundwave... but the idea is still a solid one. Some sort of Reflector/Soundwave cross maybe??

Since there will be a fairly small cast... and Hasbro will want to
make as many toys as is financially viable, something like that seems very probable.

i think ahelicoptor works...he could be all stealth chopper like and still be the infotech guy....and as for the tapes, make them ipods, cell phones, or other small devices..

    Soundwave a helicopter? Hrm.

Anyway, whats to stop the tapes being converted to memory cards, that have dimensions/proportions similar to cassettes? Its not like they have to be the size of an XD card or anything.

Why not just have the robot form change into a tape, but the stickers/detailing show '5GB memory card' instead of a tape? I don't know why people insist it HAS to be totally accurate to a current form of storage media.

If I saw a memory card that was the size of one of the original G1 tape TF's sitting on my desk next to my computer, I'd assume it was a new format, and think nothing of it. Seriously, whats with the total adherance to accuracy? (Its got to be a CD or nothing!)
