While it was exciting to hear our favorite bots like Ironhide and Ratchet were going to have their earthmode in Earthrise, how it actually turned out was a tad disappointing.

Yup, that's not going to cut it, so here we go with some replacement feet for our beloved pair of bots then!

The red does not match up for now as it was simple 3d printed in red material with spot colors painted in for details, but here's how it looks when swapped in.

Now then, as preference was somewhat given to having a more accurate alt mode, Ironhide does end up with curved underside of the feet. But even so, can balance fairly ok.

Even as far as to stand on one foot!

And to do a couple of highkicks!

Here's a comparison of the original feet and the new replacements. Thankfully, it's a fairly easy swapping process.

Now, it wouldn't quite do to just have the extra feet lying around and liable to getting misplaced. So, a couple of different addons allow them to be converted into a massive hammer!

Or just to be slung on Ironhide's back like a techno backpack, which is at least out of the way.

Here's a quick video which perhaps better illustrates things:

    Hallelujah!

Ratchet: "Surgery was a complete success. How do your new feet feel?"
    Ironhide: "Great, doc."
Ratchet: "What about your new... um, hammer?"
Ironhide: *test swings* "Feels perfect for kicking Deceptihides. I'm gonna call it Sh!tkicker."

Amen to that! The single worse thing about the Earthrise version is those awful feet sticking out the back.
They're not great on the Siege version either, but at least they have an excuse.

I will critique, though. The outer sides are bit too flat like the original feet. Might I suggest extending them a bit to better match up with the contours of the sides of the van? You could even follow the contour all the way up and give him a bit of a protruding toe / boot knife look.

Still a vast improvement over those Cybertronian feet.
Now how about replacement shoulders to really complete the upgrade??

Alt mode looks great now! Though personally i think they now look worse in robot mode. They look too flat and square.

    Thank you all~!

Those are absolutely fair feedbacks, so much appreciated! It really was quite a bit of a tradeoff in figuring out how to get it to look best in alt mode so the look in bot mode took a little bit of a hit. Thankfully, there's always swapping back of feet, so yeah~ :p

I posted about this here too:

    - Funbie Studios - Ironhide Feet/Vehicle Rear Add-On Kit

Although I could never really buy this (I live in Japan, and Shapeways/exports from the USA are too expensive), maybe it might be nice for you to utilise the redundant feet and vehicle roof/shield with some extra parts to make the tracked "weapon bay" (or "repair bay" in Ratchet's case)?

Smoooooth! :thumb . That's exactly what that figure needed. Those feet are so unsightly hanging off the back. That is very fine mod you've created. Thanks for sharing.

Nice! And I love that you find a use for the original feet in that big hammer!

While I largely prefer Earthrise Ironhide to Siege, Siege had the nicer weapons.

Thank y'all~ That was the idea indeed to make the alt mode less problematic :p

Ah cool, thanks for sharing there! Those are interesting alternative ideas for the feet, perhaps will take another crack at doing something for them (also since Ratchet is incoming for me :p )

Oh, I thought the feet for the Siege version looked ok :p

Lol. No pressure! I was just curious. My 3 year old "borrowed" my Ratchet and I have not seen it since so I'm not modifying it any time soon.

Anywhere I can buy a set? My pack is coming in on the 4th so it'd be nice to have these ready to go for him.

On a side note, since someone called out Hasbro on it...
They went to the trouble of remolding the shoulders, but didn't bother matching them up with the outside of the vanette mode?
    Why!? Just finish the job!

Anyway, when I get my Ironhide and Ratchet, I'm definitely going to want to get a couple pairs of these.

Really really nice. I've made it very clear to my family that I want a 3D printer for the holidays, so I'll keep my eye on this one.

I really dig how you lined up the contours of the rear window! The taillights and bumper seem a little low compared to real-world vans, but I don't know how much of that is a "making sure the robot feet are balanced" issue versus a "making the back of the van more convincing" issue.

(That being said, it looks like you referenced an actual Nissan Vanette, so I will gladly defer to you on this one!)
