I just bought G1 Wildrider and he's in pretty good shape aside from some rust buildup on the hubcaps... I'm curious as to what is the best way to remove rust from these old action figures without damaging the surrounding paint apps/plastic... I've read about a few home remedies but I'm not sure what works best on small areas without having to submerge the thing in solution...

In general, a careful application of aluminum jelly with a Q-tip would work. just be really careful, that stuff is crazy caustic. Works well on corrosion though.

    Diamond of disappearance.

No seriously though try a little rubbing alcohol and maybe some very fine sandpapering if you don't want to try aluminum jelly.

Try some Singer Oil using QTips. Don't let any touch the tires or stickers though.

I've mentioned this before several times, but the phosphoric acid in cola reacts with the rust and loosens it to be wiped off. Of course you might not want to submerge the figure in cola if you want to keep decals that are applied in tact. Maybe if you could balance it on something somehow so only the wheels are touching the liquid?...

i did this on my g1 dragstrip who was in the same state as your stunticon: fine salt on the rusted part, then green lemon juice on it, waited 30 minutes, and used the lemon skin to rub off the rust, cleaned off the tf with clear water and dishes soap, dried it with a clean tissue (then i added the reprolabels) and sprayed the whole toy with a matte varnish coat
polished the metal and voila, good as new!

Asking a question such as the original poster did here is not only permissible, but welcomed and reasonable. There are a great many collectors here who have dealt with this issue and others that impact their collecting habits.

I was being facetious. I'm amazed at some of the answers. I might have to try out some things to rusted screws on a few figures.
