Remington Steele (LINK) was a popular 1980s action-detective TV series about a precocious woman who forms a detective agency and recruits a con-man who suffers from amnesia and can't determine his own identity. The woman uses the man to portray her fictitious agency superior, since people don't trust a detective agency run by a woman, but the man honestly can't remember his true identity because of amnesia so doesn't mind helping the woman. The series ran on NBC for 5 seasons and reached a society following mostly for its stark wit and stylishness and offbeat romance, a sort of high-brow rendition of Moonlighting (Bruce Willis). Remington Steele introduced us all to the charm of British actor Pierce Brosnan, way before he became the new James Bond! Brosnan plays the man with amnesia who helps the ambitious and attractive woman run her unique detective agency. The two go on nice adventures and sometimes court their bubbly romantic relationship. This is cool earlier-era TV for people interested in social confidence, and I like comparing the man and the woman in the show to Rodimus Prime and Arcee from Transformers, honesty because their romance is rather...dioramic. ==== The show boasts terrific posters and video-collection ribbons for those who appreciate neo-classical media. In fact, this is chic detective-TV for those seeking something different from Matlock or Miami Vice. The detective work storytelling is quite good, and the acting complements the stories handsomely, making it a show appealing to both teens and adults alike, and reruns air on the East Coast (USA) on networks like DECADES and H&I. There's a terrific episode when the romantic detectives travel to bucolic green Ireland to solve an important sociological case! The Irish love Jesus... The guest characters/actors are nifty too, making it an all-around 'mod' TV experience! If you like new age TV with traditional ribbons, this gem is for you, and you can find Blu-ray collections on Amazon, and that makes for a cool anniversary gift for your spouse, no? Remember what I mentioned too about the protagonists in this iconic 1980s show --- they definitely remind us of the social romance-charm of Rodimus Prime and Arcee. What do you think? Cheers, ====
My family loved the series back in the day, I rewatched it a few years back I want to say on Hulu. It was a good show with a good team in front and behind the camera. It's a shame that both stars hated the show by the end; in vague summation; Brosnan was to be the next Bond, and that led to a boost in Remington Steele's viewership, so instead of ending the show, they renewed it and contractually forced Brosnan to stay on, leading to Timothy Dallton becoming Bond at that point. Zimbalist was then caught in the same trap; she was already cast as Lewis, Murphy's partner in Robocop, but as also contractually forced back to Steele, so Robocop also had to recast. With the show already sagging with age and both stars resentful at being there and seeing the projects they were going to succeed, it was anything but a fun place to be.
I love this show. Loved it back in the day, bought it on dvd several years back and still love it. The first season is the best. But there's no way they could have maintained that dynamic indefinitely. They probably should have stopped at 3, although I do like 4. The final half season is a little rough, but worth watching for some of the answers provided. When I saw this thread title, I was afraid it was going to be the announcement of a reboot series, like they did to Magnum PI (another favorite of mine). SOOOOOOOO happy that was not the case.
This was a show of my childhood, and as such, is what I have always associated Pierce Brosnan with. To this day, I still immediately think "Remington Steele" whenever I see him. Given the show's premise and Brosnan's character, it's no surprise that the calls for him to play Bond one day started all the way back then. Seemed like a such a perfect idea... until it actually happened. Heh.
I liked Brosnan as Bond. I like the majority of his Bond films (didn't care for the one with the media tycoon as the villain). Can't say that about any of the other actors. Never saw Lazenby (sp) one but of the others, I legit like ONE of their Bond films. Seen almost all of them and for most, I have no desire to ever watch them again.
