My first post in Radicons! I am making 3 of these, Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp complete with custom pilots and a Walther P-38 Megatron Pistol for Cobra Commander to hold. As of right now, I have the 3 jets, 95% of my paints and materials to get them done and Wild Bill over at Cobra Stickers say the sticker sheets for these guys are almost ready to list on the site so that is almost a go too... I used rattle cans to paint him. I primed the fins with white primer as well as the nose to make the blue bright and uniform. Model Masters White Primer No: 28138 Testors One Coat Lacquer Revving Red No: 1837M Star pangled Blue No: 1843M My current dilemma is whether or not to paint/dye Starscreams canopy with translucent orange paint like the SDCC version or leave them clear? I could tint them as a third option... I don't think the paint Ive found is as neon as the SDCC Screamer. Thoughts? Opinions? Next up Megatron mounted under the nose and decals... Here is the thread on Hisstank where they are updating us on the stickers. Once available we can order them here. Got the gun here. EDIT 10/01/2011 I added the LED's to the engines. 1 pic with the good camera before the battery died, the rest are iphone... There is a guide to these modifications over on HissTank, credit to vidmouse. In short, you buy 2 cylindrical book lights from dollar tree (although my Dollar Tree did not have the same lights he used so my mod was a little more involved), cut the book clamp off the lights, cut the turbine off the engines and slide the book lights in there. (I can get pics if you guys wanna see)... and yes, I also have plans for those turbine tips I cut off! EDIT 10/02/2011 Here is what I ended up doing with the turbines I cut off the engine tubes.
you do know that Translucent Orange is NOT the same as transparent orange dont you?!?! translucent is like smoked and transparent you can actually see through clearly tho tinted or shaded a colour
I'm realizing its quite difficult to find clear orange spray paint... Any of you have any ideas where one might find the right stuff for the job? Preferable rattle can but I do have a couple of airbrushes that I haven't used in about 10 years! LOL
Starscream looks great!!! Can't wait to see SW & TC. Thanks for the links to the gun & stickers. BTW...what kind of blue paint did you use for the nose & tail fins?

I wish I had the money and space to make these for myself, starscream is looking good so far and I look forward to seeing him finished.
Your turbine idea is brilliant !! I never would have thought of that. Are you going to do the 'wing-mod' so that the wings can be swept back while the landing gear is down?
I'd like to but everything I've read points to the fuselage being screwed AND glued together! I have yet to try pulling it apart. Thanks again for the positive feedback.
I did the original writeup you're referring to, and included a tutorial on the wing mod if you want to know how to do it. link Nice work on Starscream so far!
I credited you in my original post vidmouse! Your Striker look amazing! Great job!!! I couldn't find those exact book lights so mine is completely different on the inside than yours but the end result is the same. It was a PITA and I dremeled for half an hour to remove enough material from the lights I bought to get them to fit. LOL! The thing about your wing mod is that you must move them independently. I saw in another Hisstank members post where he had made the required parts to make the wings move together yet separately from the landing gear but it was incredibly difficult due to Hasbro gluing the Skystriker together... DOH! I really never see this jet having the wings @ 90' so I may very well go with your idea. I will be panel lining this guy next!
