And we're back into the set-up stages of the next story arc.

There is more than a hint of Maximum Dinobots here. The Dinobots turning against Grimlock is a clear sign of that. These are not the loyal without question Dinobots we saw back in Marvel's comics.

Regeneration #86 spoilers on an issue where nothing happened.

In this issue we find the Autobots cleaning up after the last issue, and some scheming done by the usual suspects. A good read, but too short for $3.99. I always thought that the price of comics rose because the paper was becoming more expensive. There is no paper used on a download, so why is it $3.99?

    What a rip.

Its sold at the cover price. Wait a month and it halves that. Then there $0.99 sales for old comics.

Comixology don't want to annoy the comic book stores by making them redundant by selling comics cheaper from day one of their release.

I'm waiting for Rage of the Dinobots to go down in cost before buying it since I don't care enough to pay full price.

Simon's always witten Soundwave as a schemer and manipulator in the old U.K. comics. Megatron believed that Soundwave is his most trustworthy ally when in actuality, Soundwave is just as traitorous as Starscream, only with the competence to back it up. Soundwave only once openly betrayed Megatron, in the Earthforce comics.

Certain details of the story don't jibe with what I remember...Zarak as genius and the Thunderwing aura. That having been said this arc looks interesting.
Love the reactions from humans and Kup.
    Prime needs to die.

The Grimlock dream sequence was unnecessary filler. I understood that the Dinobots were not happy with Grimlock from the first few pages. It got good on the very last page and then it was... over. I haven't been ripped of this bad since I read Rage of the Dinobots last week.

No matter what happens Starscream lives and was I the only person who wanted Optimus to step on Spike?

I'm not convinced Grimlock turned bad just because he had a nightmare!
The Autobots haven't been welcome on the Earth in almost 20yrs!
After that explosion, Soundwave might just possess scrap!
Starscream has always been a loose cannon, and Galvatron's been on the loose since last issue!
Nothing worth mentioning happened this issue!

Grimlock has joined Scorponok under coercion. We have found out what Scorponok's plan is. Scorponok has obtained what he needs to begin his plan. Soundwave was obtained Thunderwing's remains - he teleports out, the destruction of the hall covers his escape. Starscream has been revealed to still be alive. PLENTY of stuff happened.

I think the main problem with the issue is that the story elements are shown in the wrong order, which makes it seem like there has been little progress. The major event of #85 was Megatron’s death on Earth. This element of the story has been finished and needs to be concluded as soon as possible, so that we can move to the events taking place elsewhere. Instead, we start the issue on Nebulos, return to Earth halfway through the issue for 5 pages, and go back to it again for the cliffhanger at the end.

Personally, I would have started the issue with 4 pages of the Earth clean-up operation (it didn't need six to tell the story), ending with the Autobots leaving Earth and Prime wondering what has happened on Cybertron in his absence. Switch to Cybertron for Soundwave’s break-in and apparent death, then move on to Nebulos to show Grimlock’s temptation and decision to join Scorponok. The new faction conversion gene seems a more credible cliffhanger than the reminder that Galvatron is still around.

Yeah, I can't get behind the existence of an evil gene in the Transformers. So they've never had free will in deciding if they're good or bad? They're born that way? And if Scorponok can just make Transformers good or bad by turning on or off the gene, why was he asking Grimlock to be bad at all? Why not flip his gene switch instead? And why does Scorponok want Grimlock in particular on his side so badly, so much so that he already had a new body built for him before he even made his arrival just in case?

^ Those question seem so, well, huge that I think we will get it cleared up soon why things can't happen that way. I think for whatever handwave reason Scorponok needs a sample Autobot "template" in order to flip Autobots on Cybertron into Decepticons.

As for the "badness is genetic" concept, I'm not a big fan but it's hard to argue that TFs were presented that way back in the '80s. No one had a reason for being what side they were on, virtually no faction switching, in the toon the Quintessons actually built them differently, all culminating in the Liege Maximo declaring that he could feel Megatron's status and nature as one of his spawn at the end of G2.

This will probably be the last gasp of this idea in the franchise, and I'm not sorry to see it go, but if you're bringing it up, Furman, make it good.

And if issue #100 turns all of the 'cons into 'bots and wraps up the story that way, ew.

So comixology's logic is if they offer a comic for $2 cheaper on the day it comes out, people are gonna go out and buy $600 iPads just to get slightly cheaper comics? I don't know about that one Bass...

Cause it's not like anyone would own any Comixology-compatible device for ANY other reason than comics.

Okay. So because the download is $3.99 and the actual comic is $3.99, this means that people will continue to go to their LCS? It doesn't make sense.

It means that people that regularly buy from an LCS won't abandon that habit simply because digital would be cheaper. Its really not that hard to grasp.

Not really sure where this Zarak=genius idea comes from. All I remember is that Zarak was a consummate politician who ping ponged back and forth between being corrupted by Scorponok's power and occasional attacks of decency as plotting demanded. Maybe Furman is setting up a fatal flaw (arrogance) which will lead to Scorp's undoing. I really doubt Grimlock is just meekly bending to coercion.
The idea of the Bot/Con gene isn't quite new in this continuity. Grimlock speculated that the difference between the factions was genetic. I'm curious to see how that plays out.
I'm lukewarm about the whole former Headmaster plot line as it seems to be a reach at best to tell a story that doesn't have to be told at all with a retcon or three thrown in as setup. If the payoff is worthwhile then it's all to the good. Wouldn't mind seeing Scorp running roughshod with his crew of former Autobot Headmasters wreaking indiscriminate havoc.

    We will see.
