Yes and anyway as I said, the paint will NEVER be matched. It will always look more premium.
I still really really really like Warden.
I’ll be sad if this doesn’t happen, but ... and please pardon my blasphemous useage of words ... I won’t be incredibly heartbroken if this doesn’t happen.
Warden + upgrade kit pretty much puts him at a very reasonable spot - scale wise - with other voyager brethren. He could perhaps use an extra inch of height (maybe two at max?).
I still think as beautiful and accurate as this character looks; he’s just way too tall.
Why on Earth is he the size of MMC’s Overlord anyways ... when there are still people to this day who still says he’s still tall (even LazyAza used to agree with this statement until he backtracked and began defending his height with the likes of many different Roche images from LSoTW).
The old way of thinking (which is still probably honestly correct) was that MMC wanted to cater and make sales from the G1 people as well, by making him the same size as G1 StarSaber.
You can pull up many images of FortMax and he is never this tall. He has a little bit of height on the likes of Ratchet. He should have probably been as tall as Roller should have been; but that didn’t happen as he was a mold share with Tarn and Thunderclash.
Yes. My ONLY problem with Supermax is the size is a bit too big.
Yes, it was designed to work with G1 Fort Max. Why? Because G1 Fort Max was the only full-size Fort Max at the time.
So, you can tell your son that you were wrong. Most parents never do that. It will blow his mind.
I have no problem admitting I'm wrong. He was watching an EmGo video on Warden which I was only half paying attention to and I swore he was showing it didn't fit on G1 Max. But I know he also tried fitting it on the TR Max because he said something like, "Doesn't fit this either. Unless you make an adapter or something like that..."
Edit: Maybe my kid was watching the TR Max video and they brought out the G1 head. That's probably what it was.
I did say "most parents". Actually, I apologized to my kid whenever I made a mistake, and now he has a superiority complex. Oh well. No way to win.
Nah. I've very specifically referred to mtmte's scenes as well several times. Scenes drawn by milne himself. Like the one where Overlord is objectively double the size of Ratchet. The one where he's crushing a deluxe under a single foot and the one where he towers over Megatron in the arena fight flashback, never mind the others. These are just my personal fav shots from the books and how wonderfully they encapsulate Overlords towering terrifying nature.
Look I can even recreate one of them with tyran and carn right now. If Carn had more range to his hips and better feet I could get the pose more spot on.
And Carn is the toy we refer to as an ideal companion for Supermax right now sure but he's also the only such toy mmc has finished so far unless you count magnainventa too I guess. But we got tonnes of others in development people know about that would look just as nice next to Max eventually too. Lest people forget about Tor, Mors, Solidus and Zef, also gonna be some big guys.
And theirs plenty of others people haven't seen yet of course too.
It's the biggest reason of all why I'm going to be extra sad if his crowdfund fails in the end. It isn't just Carn that'll be lonely without a nice autobot counterpart but our future autobot roster in general will never feel complete to me without an idealized idw max.
Well I'm convinced... this is more and more tempting!
Good luck with the penguins... which I have decided will fund Supermax
Personally I have Warden with the upgrade kit and this is a massive upgrade. Warden just doesn't cut it. I will be bummed if it isn't funded, but here's to hoping.
Did they say they're going to do a 3000 unit production run if this gets crowdfunded or are you being sarcastic? lol
Yes, it's been mentioned several times by MMC in this thread.
The factory has minimum run of 3000.
MMC wants to see 800+ PSX (on top of the Taobao count) backers so that they can mitigate any potential losses from financing the 3000-unit run.
The first 800 backers get a special box.
All crowdfund backers get an additional face and gun.
The remainder of the run will be offered to retailers. The retail version will be without the special box, face, and gun.
The retail version is also guaranteed not to be priced less than the final price backers will pay.
All right. I think that was the nail in the coffin for me and I finally accept this myself haha. I appreciate the time you took to do that post.
However whilst everything you finally clicked with me — what is up with FortMax’s height though? Overlord surely was as tall as you say usually — but was FortMax ever that big?
In any event, I hope MMC gets what it needs to produce this guy.
450/800.... sure hope people at the Con are in a "buying something online" mood... oh wait...
I hope this gets funded also.
I will also be bummed if it doesn't get funded but I don't think MMC should give up on it. We have created 79 pages just championing the possibility of it so there is definitely, at least, some serious interest in the figure. They might end up being better off just pursuing a normal 3rd party dev cycle. Get a proto out there and then put preorders up.
Well we are 450 now.
Hopefully TFCON LA along with the last 6 days of the crowdfund gives this guy the push it needs.
I need a battle damage version
Jeez, @LazyAza, give us a content warning before you show a shelf-porn ****tease like that. My heart can't handle it.
Fort Max in the comics is one head shorter than Overlord... in MTMTE Season 1. Roche drew Overlord all over the place re: scale. In Season 2 Overlord got weirdly shorter (or possibly Tarn got taller).
Anyway, I'm cool with Supermax being Carnifex's size. It's not comic-accurate but it's better shelf-porn to have two big-ass bots dueling it out at the center of an IDW display. However, I do think that Warden succeeded, all the way into a second run, by doing the IDW for some/G1 for others thing. If Supermax had an inner mini-robot that became an alt head for TR Fort Max, we might see the crossover we need. We might also see another 100$ added to the price...
Yes and no. Max was one of those characters where his perceived size shifted again and again depending on what he was doing in any given scene. The comics in general, like g1, were not at all immune to scaling inconsistency. Different artists, different goals for different scenes, theirs a series of reasons as to the how's and why's of mtmte showing characters this big or that big. So when you adapt them to physical toy form you have to basically say ok what are my design goals, what do I want this toy to be able to do and look like, what panels do I reference what panels do I not reference etc.
In the comic where Overlord is loose on the LL Fortmax is shown being able to easily punch/fight him 1 on 1. This whole sequence from him initially shooting Overlord to transforming to rush him is widely considered one of the defining moments of IDW Fortmax. I would almost put it up there in terms of importance as the "its over prime" scene from the 86 film for g1 Megatron.
It's important to his character because it was the moment where he would finally get his revenge and while he opted to not risk prolonging the fight and instead followed Chrome's plan to shoot Overlord out in to space, it all still centered around "this is Fortmax's moment, this is where he gets to get back at the asshole who fucked up garrus9, tortured him and left him for dead".
If it weren't for max they NEVER would have been able to get Overlord in to that pod and off the ship, he would have rampaged until everyone was dead. They stood zero chance without Max. He saved everybody because of his immensity and his power. So a toy needs to represent this moment for the character very strongly I would say.
He was the only one on the ship physically capable of standing toe to toe with Overlord. The only one strong enough to pose a threat to Overlord so Rick just like me considers him tied directly to Overlord in the same way any hero character would be to his respective villain counter. So how could he possibly design a Fortmax without mmc's Overlord in mind?
If Carn is 12, then a Max that compliments him needs to at least be 10 to 10.5 inches tall. Rick ended up having him at 11 because that's just how the design ended up working out to with regards to all his design goals for the project. He needed to be huge, he needed to be crazy fun to pose and handle, and he needed to look excellent with Carn.
But we also want our theoretical Magnus to be around 10 inches too and Max needs to be bigger than him and bigger than most of mmc's 10incher ish toys. So considering mmc's future roster 11 simply made a tonne of sense not just for the character but as a toy of the character in general when compared to alllll the other toys mmc is doing, will do, and might do. He had to be very forward thinking in that respect.
wait so many others not yet made... n this can b done in a yr?
