Still watching the orders. I expect a big bump at TFCon--many people come there ready to drop at least a grand on toys, and 50$ is a small piece of that pie--but that needs to be a big bump.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again--this is a big expectation for how niche this figure is. Hope it gets made, but we're fighting uphill.

This guy is the most realistic. He is not even hoping. He wants to, but he knows it's hopeless ;)

Seriously, this needs a horse and pony show at TFCon.

This. This. Well, the upper part. This was what I realized when I got back from the first TFCon, that I had literally spent 800 dollars to spend one thousand dollars. I mean, don't misunderstand, I had a great time, but I sort of felt that way. It was a blast to be at. But there's no way it beats out NYCC at all, IMO. If TFCon were close enough to me where the cost wasn't that high, I definitely would go again, but not without that caveat.

I just go to local conventions for this very reason. It just isn't cost-effective.

...when i used to do botcon twenty years ago, i felt obligated to drop a thousand dollars in the dealer room just to justify the expense of attending...

...nevermind that they were either overpriced or figures i wouldn’t have otherwise bought, the truth is that despite the undertone of buyer’s remorse i felt at the time, two decades later those have burgeoned into some of the most-cherished pieces in my collection...

    ...rationalisation is a funny thing!..

(i’m not attending TFcon, but there’s a strong likelihood i’ll pledge for supermax that weekend anyway)

I'm sure there will be a bump, but what's realistic? Even 200 orders that weekend seems like a lot, and that's still not enough to get over the hump.
Especially considering a lot of attendees might already have ordered one.

    I hate double-posting, but...

    HOLY SUCCESSFULLY-CROWDFUNDED GIANT TOYS!

Think Hasbro will be willing to put a rider on the Skiff orders? "You must order Supermax to get the skiff."

Yes, I realize that it makes no sense for Hasbro to support a third-party TF toy.

At this point, it’s looking like everyone’s going to have to go back and order a second one for this to happen. That’s a lot of change, but you’d get the money back on the second one eventually.

I wonder how will it work out if we pledge two and sell the second. Break even? Bit of profit? The Crowdfund price is 230 USD (including the 50 deposit) plus shipping. What's the PSX price going to be to non-crowdfund customers? I suppose I'm not keen to be stuck with two.

Considering that the general interest in this figure doesn't seem to be that much, and that if the campaign is successfull other shops will have it in stock when released, I think it won't be easy to sell a second hand copy at no loss.

Yeah, even I'm starting to feel down about this. I don't really like MMC's other IDW style figures, well maybe Stray or Cylindrus. I might console myself with the rumour of a Ratchet... but I'm disappointed they went the crowdfunding route for this awesome design and yet made so many mediocre 'niche' figures without crowdfunding. No offence MMC, just this collector's view :)

I'm really curious what the interest would be for this figure if it was priced at $180 or even $200 instead of $230. A couple friends of mine would do the crowdfund if it was $180, but they're out because it's $230. I think that $200 threshold is a big one for a lot of people.

Tell them that it will cost $180! Next year! After they pay $50 upfront! :D

The numbers here only indicate that there is lower interest in a crowd fund. I think plenty of people would be interested in the figure but aren't interested in a crowd fund. This is on top of people already being apprehensive about pre-ordering any third-party figure especially one that only exists as a 3D render. It also seems like a significant number of people don't think MMC should have to run a crowd fund at all and won't back on principal. I have no problem with the crowd fund and I completely understand why they are doing it but that doesn't mean it is ideal. I also don't want to see the figure compromised in any way. The engineering/articulation gimmicks are what I am most excited for.

If everyone who's already ordered has two friends holding out on price, and those two friends all ordered, everyone would get the $200 price. ;)

That is a big thing. I’ve backed MANY crowdfunding projects in the past, and any time I show friends they are always the same. “I’ll wait until it hits retail”

Except it won’t ever hit retail if the project doesn’t happen. But many people simply don’t buy into pre-orders and stuff anymore.

Although I've put in a preorder, I have to admit that nowadays I am leery of anything that requires upfront payment. If I can have a bad experience with Captured Prey, anything is possible.
