Yes, but a lot of the usual last minute surge is existing backers upping their tier. Since this doesn't have multiple tier, the ability for existing backers to double down is limited.

My wife is going to be mighty sour if I have to buy like 400 of these "robo-dolls".

As I recall, the Ocular Max Kojin crowdfund was also behind pace in the middle weeks, but finished strong and got over the minimum. It didn't reach the higher backer numbers (transparent Targetmaster, reduced pricing), but OX ended up giving those to everyone after the campaign concluded anyway. (Though I'm not saying that will happen again here.)

The minimum to go forward I believe was lower than 800 on that project, but people had to back 100% ($100+). Though of course, delivery happened within a month.

We'll have to see after the 15th payday for a bunch of people whether there's an encouraging spike. MMC might consider some incentives as well.

I believe @Dezefticon said that it's promoted via FB to the PSX store in the West, and via weibo to the PSX Taobao store in the East.

Though I'm curious about IDW-character familiarity in China, since I imagine the distribution there is very low. From my very rough and removed observation, it seems the audience there is more interested in G1 and the subsequent Japanese series. I could be wildly off-base on that, though.

I absolutely adore the transformation on this guy. Looks very solid, and not too finnicky.

Hmm kinda disappointed the deposit is non-refundable but I guess what are you gonna do. Hopefully this figure doesn't end up at the stores and get priced lower than what the backers pay to support these types of projects.

They said that backers would get the lowest price. So if it gets funded, don't worry we will get the best deal.

What are you talking about? If the project doesn't get backed, then the funds will be refunded back to the people who put in the deposit. If the project gets backed, then the deposit will be used towards the final price of the figure.

And it's refundable if the project doesn't get backed. I really, really hope it gets backed though. That transformation looks like a joy.

Crowdfunding away from a crowdfunding website doesn’t seem to work. I get not wanting to pay fees, however if nothing ever gets made why fuss over fees

This isn't because of fees, so much as it is not putting oneself in a precarious legal position. Remember the unofficial Transformer photographic guides that were getting kickstarted? That got shutdown because of Hasbro. That would likely be a case with this as well.

There have been successful crowdfunds outside the crowdfunding sites, such as the OX Kojin I mentioned before.

On top of any reluctance to pay fees, another issue is that Hasbro/Takara could likely ask Kickstarter (for example) to remove the project because of copyright infringement. KS might not even want to bother engaging in a legality discussion.

I feel like lack of coverage on this figure is hurting it a little bit maybe? I'm not sure, but that is why I was taking it into my own hands to post about this figure anywhere and everywhere.

I'm waiting to back until the final week just because I don't like parting with my money any sooner than I have to. I'm sure there are others with a similar mindset.

But if everyone has that mentality, there's people who see a low number of backers and won't bother checking back in later on. I say if you want this to be successful, back it now.
