Well I got a complete red slag on ebay recently. Real nice condition and complete too. Anyways, just wanted to bring up the idea that the red slag variant was not just released in Canada but also in the United States. Very few have sworn when they were younger they had a red slag and was in the US not canada.

Here is the auction where I won the slag

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200194215246&ssPageName=ADME:B:BOCOS:US:1

The tech spec and instruction are in english and not the canadian version. Which led me to believe that this Slag is probably bashed to make it complete but I was wrong. Everything that this Slag comes with are indeed original. How did I find this out?

Well the seller I bought it off of states that it was part of a large collection. So I looked at his buying feedback and behold I see the red slag in a large lot of transformers where he got it from!!
    Here is the link...
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170183011715

I talked to the guy that sold the lot of transformers and he told me that he has had those transformers since the early 80's when he was in his early teens. And all of the transformers were bought at local department stores in Virgina. He told me that he loved those toys very much. He was shocked when he saw his Slag resold for 250.00!!!

I am sure the red slags were also released in the US but VERY few and early on.

I was really impressed with the condition of the toy when I got it. Really well preserved and totally complete! The gun and 3 missles are original with the white plastic base as all the other chrome parts on Slag.(for those that dont know the chrome parts on the red slag has white plastic instead of black underneath)

Knowing that I have a red slag released in the US gives it a different feeing to the toy. Pretty cool. Makes you wonder about the existence of a blue bluestreak....

I currently have the red slag displayed exactly the way it is pictured in the auction that I got it from, showing how this is a US released red Slag.

DAMN, that original lot sold for a LOT! is that about the right going price for something like that nowdays? it seems really high especially if the buyer is breaking it up and turning a profit on it.

nice detective work on this, now we just need to find a MISB specimen =D

IMO that lot sold for cheap!! They are all originals in very good condition and complete. The guy even saved the upc cut-outs. lol
And look at the prime, its the grey roller metal trailer.
If that guy really cared he would have sold them in pieces to get more money but decided just to get rid of them all at once.

But you also have to remember that aint just some ordinary junk lot, when he was a kid that was his prized collection. It has sentimental value i guess.

WOW. that seller originaly sold it for a BIN of 120.00??
Then realized it was rare and relisted. My offer was 250.00 but the seller never accepted or declined it because he was looking for people to offer him 300.00 or more. But I finally persuaded him. The waiting was horrible.

I remember this red slag! So you ended up buying it huh?
A US released red Slag. That is rare. I thought these were only canadian releases. I guess not!

Just because it's in the USA doesn't prooves it's from the USA... I've seen other Canadians transformers in the USA and also USA transformers in Canada. there's a very good chance those toys were purchased during a trip or received as a gift. This can't be denied. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but if it does it's much rare than the Canadian version. It's the same situation as Bluestreak. Until someone doen't shows one USA Red Slag MISB, it's existance can't be prooved.

First read his auction description and if you look at his pictures it will answer a lot of your questions.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...dexURL=10&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

I doubt he would lie about how he got his transformers. I first asked him how he got those transformers and he told me that they were all bought by him(except for sideswipe, blaster, ironhide which are loose and incomplete) at local department stores in Virgina back in the 80's and he is the original owner of these toys. He was in his early teens. He didnt even know he had a red slag variant until I said anything. But I agree a MISB would no doubt prove it but that day may not come. I think this is as close as it could get. You have to remember that he collected transformers for the fun factor when he was a kid and not for investment purposes. He is not an adult collector. He even collected the UPC codes. How are UPC codes really worth anything? He even didnt know or care he had a grey roller metal trailer prime.

I'm sorry but him just saying he bought them all and he is the original owner doesn't mean squat. My next door neighbor swore up and down that his Swoop with a blue chest came in a transformer box....15 years later he is cleaning out his attic and found a DIACLONE Swoop box. Most people don't have a perfect memory after 20 years. He could have got it as a gift or something. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but I find it highly unlikely.

Unless it's MISB in a US box that doesn't mean anything or stand as any proof to me. And I'd agree, that $970 auction was super expensive. G1 TFs are going for A LOT on ebay right now. I'd also agree that sellers talk all kinds of garbage or misinfo about where and how they obtained stuff (purposely and not).

Every time this variant pops up in discussion, it makes me laugh!
