I'm gonna recap on the movies. Bay said that red does not photograph well when the Transformers Blu-Ray DVD was released.

This explains why Optimus has flames.......

Then in the 2nd movie, where Sideswipe was silver. Why would Mudflap be red?

3rd movie we have Dino, who is a red Ferrari. Yet Sideswipe is still silver........
    :sly:

Someone help explain why there are completly red characters and characters originally red not red. This is Bayformers logic............

    Got it in one.

I'm pretty sure people once said space travel was impossible.

Technology improves. Get with the program. I'm pretty sure Bay didn't say "Red doesn't, hasn't, and never will photograph well as long as time exist." Red used to be a very bleed-y colour. But now with bluray and true HD being commonplace that's obviously not a problem anymore.

Also that wasn't the reason for Optimus having flames. It was the reason for why he had so much blue on him verses being primarily red as he had been before. The flames were chosen because of how they looked on him in robot mode. (Bay specifically mentions in BTS stuff how he likes the way they evoke a ribcage in his robot mode whithout actually giving him a ribcage)

Also also, some characters not being red is just a stylistic choice because, you'know, it's not G1.

Also also also, this topic has been brought up many times before. Why doesn't anyone ever use the search feature?

    :lol  So true.

Red would bleed on VHS and to a lesser extent DVD it's never been a problem with film.

Film use dto be black and white and that was never a problem.

It's progress, man. There was a two-year gap between each movies. The first movie is now five years old. It's ridiculous to assume film technology has not improved in five years.

^^^^^ what everyone above me said. Technology improves as time goes on. Right now we might say it's impossible to project a movie in a room three dimensionally as we sit in the middle with action happening all around us. Maybe years from now we will be able to do that. It's not like we're liars for saying we can't do that right now.

It reminds me of 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' a war film made in the 60's.

There was enough in the film, as a history buff and a patriotic chap, to make me scream my head off in rage on levels that were on a par with Braveheart, however there was one particular interesting bit of trivia for it. The director wanted to change the British army uniforms to blue, because the red wasn't filming well. Only when the historical advisors threatened to resign did he reverse his decision. There is definitely truth in red not photographing well. Or there was at the time.

He also was likely talking about how the use of red tends to dominate what's onscreen, due to being an eye-catching color. When used as lighting, details can be missed by the eye, and when an object onscreen is mostly red, it can become the focus even when it's not meant to be. Obviously, he felt that his use of red in other instances would be enough to accomplish what he wanted with those shots.

Michael Bay's directorial style may have a lot to critique, but he's a pretty intelligent and skillful filmmaker when it comes to visuals (at least from a composition sense, if not in terms of a sequence or scene).

Red flames on blue and blue flames on red; to help break up solid chunks of colour.

Because he wanted Sideswipe to be silver and Mudflap to be orange? Simple as that. A lot of people seem to forget that the core cast of G1 Autobots is pretty much A SCREAMING IN-YOUR-FACE BARRAGE OF RED AND WHITE. Optimus, Ratchet, Ironhide, Jetfire, Cliffjumper, Inferno, Seaspray, Blaster, Sideswipe. Hence why Ratchet, Ironhide, Sideswipe and Jetfire (from that list) are different colours in Bayformers.

*Please see my description below. Advancements in technology.

Because it's Michael Bay's Transformers and he did what he wanted since he's the director?

    Allow me to quote myself:

...the "red problem" wasn't linked with CGI, it's because red doesn't show well on film. I asked my high school film teacher about this issue back in 2007 and he elaborated, explaining that on traditional film stock (aka, not digital cinematography and what Transformers was filmed with/using), red had a tendency to "bleed" on the traditional film used. Or at least, too much red did. Hence why Optimus has slightly less red than tradition (like, 12% less red than your average Optimus), and why there's red flames on blue and blue flames on red - just to help break up those solid red blocks which could be problematic. Imagine now if Ironhide had a lot of red on him. And if Ratchet also had red with white. Or if they chose to have Cliffjumper, a red Sideswipe, a red and white Jetfire, etc.. That's more red that could potentially cause problems, problems that they'd like to avoid. They did what they could with the designs to try and limit the large amounts of red that might be present. With DotM filming digitally, that problem was obviously rendered moot as evident by Dino, Leadfoot and Sentinel Prime, along with Optimus.

Yes, that's why he lied about the changing camera technology. Oh wait...

*It's always been a problem with traditional film stock.

No worries. :)  Everyone else was pretty much saying the same thing as me; it had to do with the available technology at the time and Bay's personal creative choices. Nothing more, nothing less.

Strengthens my point even further. ;)

    :lol  :thumbs2:

Bay is a hypocritical idiot for saying that red doesn't photograph well on traditional filming methods, and then utilizing the updates and advancements in filming technology to rectify said problem?

Says the guy who posts right after someone explains why red didn't photograph well back when he made the statement?

Oh yeah, Bay sure is the chump in this situation.
