I signed up with Steam roughly a mounth ago. For some reason I can no longer log in. I enter my user name and password, but it keeps telling me it's invalid. Yet when I pull up steam from my desktop, it has my profile picture in teh bottom right corner and it say's my account in the top corner, but when I click on it it just takes me to my account page as it would be viewed by someone else. I tried using Steam's support but it didn't help at all. (it's first recommendation was to click the "recover steam account" button from the login, and I couldn't find it anywhere) It's really frustrating since I don't want to make a new account. (though I only have one friend and no games yet)

Is there any way to fix this?

Try going to "make a new account" and use the email you used for your original account and see if it recognizes it.

This has happened to me before.... And it could of happened to you too...
My old account was stolen and I never got it back....
I did get the curse out the guy but Steam did nothing to help me.... Which really sucks.
And the sad part is was one of my most trusted friends on steam.
But I did get a new name and shit.... Now I'm cared to trust anyone on steam anymore but.... Hopefully this didn't happen to you.

Thanks, I tried looking for an email link on the site but it just kept bringing me to the support page.

I suppose if this was going to happen I'm glad it happened on an account with ONE friend and no games. :/

Huh, thanks for the help guys, but everything works fine, now. That was weird, because I didn't log in again or do anything, I just opened steam and I'm logged in like nothing happened, when last night I wasn't.

EDIT: Nope, spoke too soon. Problem is back. Though this time it did say there were network issues.

    I hate steam.

Years ago (back when Half Life 2 was full price) I opened a Steam account, all well and good so far. But as Windows inevitably does, I had to nuke my machine and start anew.

After reinstalling HL2 I couldn't access my Steam account, and couldn't remember my password. I sent off a password request, and used the password supplied (which seemed right I thought) but it didn't work for me. I couldn't just use HL2 with a new Steam account because the serial no. was already assigned to my existing account.

After repeated emails about this, for weeks, I got no reply. At all.

I wasn't going to buy HL2 again, I got no help from steam, and I'll never buy another Valve product again. Hell, since then I've not bought any new PC games, only console.

    Thats.... Very.... Very..... Weird....

Steam is not for everyone.... Plus Steam Staff suck....
But don't give up on Pc gaming because steam staff suck!!!
You could just buy the game from the story.... (Not Half life/Counter Strike)....
Pc has a giant selection of games.

Steam's changed since HL2 first came out, man. Valve is one of the best companies out there when it comes to resolving problems. You really should give both Steam and Valve another chance, they've both really come a long way.

*Knock on wood* Okay, for now it's working. This is seriously giving me a headache, though.

I've been using Steam actively since 2005 with 0 problems, its amazing how far its come. I definitely prefer it to the XBL/GFWL interface.
