According to this Weibo, TLK grossed 330 million yuan (48 million USD) on opening day (23 Jun) in China. Specifically, the 1st screenings on opening day (midnight shows) total 40 million yuan (6 million USD). Apparently, both broke records for films in the Transformers series.

I recently read something on Tformers.net that the movies are now more focused on grossing a lot internationally, while the domestic total has become just an added bonus.

Man, we need to come up with a better abbreviation for The Last Knight. Every time I see "TLK", I just think "The Lion King".

By this point, I just see these movies as a (evil, if you want to call it that :D ) necessity keeping the Transformers brand alive and the revenue stream healthy for the toys we love going forward (Classics, Masterpiece, etc.). The live action movies may be hit or miss (I enjoyed the first movie and DOTM) but at least I can enjoy some of the designs and figures they offer even if the quality of the source material they're base on can be questionable.

That said, I haven't seen TLK yet but will sometime this weekend. I'm keeping my expectations low.

I never thought I'd ever be rooting for a Transformers movie to flop. This franchise broke me.

Goddamn. Six posts into this thread... don't some of you get tired of bitching about these movies? If you don't like them, don't see them.

Damnit, I was really hoping it wouldn't do so well over there. Looks like we're stuck with Bayformers for a while to come.

Hope the movie continues to do well. Was surprisingly good. Felt a little crowded story-wise, but overall it was pulled off really well with some fun humor and decent action.
Personally my only complaint at all is that it needed more Cogman. His scenes were a delight!

I really can't comprehend the encouragement this franchise still gets. All be it to have a film franchise of something you love, but come on, there needs to be a line. It saddens me that people are sick of these movies because Bay basically singles-out his audience demographic. He's not even trying to win over new audiences, he's basically just made these films for HIS fans. So really, him trying to justify this film, much like he tried to justify AOE and DOTM is pointless. He should just say, it's more of the same, because thats enough to get a lot of the audience back to seeing these films.

This franchise is tainted now. You either continue following Bay's path and further "alienating" this product and its audience, or you try and reboot into into something more universal, but face a lot of scepticism and lack of enthusiasm from all sides, as the Bay fans won't support anything that doesn't cater to their demographic. Then this film franchise is lost.

Even AoE had weaker receipts in US. Well, without China Bayformers could live again, but I think that finally something happen, like kicking Bay off.

    Thanks, China.

Only hope now will be the extra push from the UK, Europe and other international markets.

Maybe we could re-abbreviate Lion King to be FJERO, for Fake Jungle Emperor Rip-Off.
