    Hi guys,

Have you guys seen this one before?
TAKARA TOMY TRANSFORMERS MUSIC LABEL MP3 PLAYER SOUNDWAVE BLUE FIGURE EV AQ1389 | eBay

What's are your thoughts about this figure that plays mp3?

    My thoughts:
if it's big, then you got one big mp3 player in your pocket.
it isn't G1 accurate, but still looks good.
at this time, who needs a mp3 player when you can listen music from your phone.
nice idea, but i don't think i'm gonna buy this.

It's been out for quite awhile...ten years I think actually. I have one and I actually use it as my Classics Soundwave since it's a really cool toy. In between Deluxe and Voyager height, looks great with Classice Megatron. Honestly I've never played MP3s on it, that wasn't my selling point.

Mine's all scratched up, and doesn't work for some reason. Light goes on if there's batteries, but turns off immediately after, even with brand new batteries in.

Never used the player, but it is one of my favorite Soundwave figures ever. Perfect deluxe size, great articulation and correct weapons and alt mode.

This figure is OLLLLLLLLLLD. I mean, it came out in 2007! 10 years ago! Ooof.

Having said that it really is a great figure... probably the best 'Classics' Deluxe version of Soundwave so far, at least as a G1 version goes. It's transformation is basically the G1 except for the head (which is sprung loaded to pop up) and his chest door/Mini SD card slot pops open like the G1 toy too. It also runs off two AAA's so battery life is alright. It's posable and comes with different hands to better hold his guns (or have closed fists). And basically looks great. As a figure he's awesome.

However... as an MP3 player... it's kind of shit.

Basically it takes a Mini SD card (IIRC) but it's not SDHC compatible, so the max is 2GB. It also doesn't recognise folders so you need everything in the root directory of the card, and of course that means that trying to sort albums or music into categories is a nightmare. Also because it starts at track 1, if you want to listen to track 50 you have to push the fast forward button 49 times to get there. And there's no way of knowing what track you're listening to without hearing it because there's no display!

As to size, it's not small, it's only a little bit smaller than G1 Soundwave (see my case pic, my Music Label Soundwave is the white version at the bottom left).

So it's a nice curiosity, but don't buy it for an MP3 player. I used mine for one on a holiday... and never really used it again for that function.

Great figure but its a garbage mp3 player.

I wish they revisited the idea but using MP Soundwave instead.

It's a Junior Soundwave KO from the 80's. He was my childhood Soundwave, and the pink bits are actually diecast so he's relatively weighty... which made G1 Soundwave feel light when I finally got one.

Use to have him, both the blue and the black version.

I never played any MP-3 files on it so can't judge that feature, but I found him to be an awesome version of Soundwave. Very posable, good transformation and just oozing character. As a deluxe (he's a bit taller than the classics Seekers) he fits in nice with a part of the CHUG collection and is the best Soundwave in that role. I just don't collect CHUGs of that size anymore, but else I would've kept him and he'd still be my favourite Soundwave -- and that includes the MP, because the music label is more fun to fiddle with.

i love this figure, and he was my first MP3 player back in 2007. the MP3 playing feature is sucky as described so i put on DJ sets so i only had about 10 files to flip through. i also used (still do sometimes) as a backup MP3 player for long flights or going to the gym. it's also fun to transform him during the flight when bored.

then one day i left him at the gym; found him in the lost and found next day but he was busted up, idiots were rough with the transformation and someone swiped the mini-SD card (i hope they went deaf from my DJing). so i got a second one.

he also has different hands you can swap out with some different finger poses.

back when TRU sold MP Soundwave i planned on getting one and putting in the electronics from my broken MP3 Soundwave, but then he was insanely hard to find.

I'll echo the sentiments - it's a really nice deluxe-ish (on the taller side of the average) Soundwave figure, though the lack of tape interaction might be a deal-breaker for some. The MP3 function is basically about as good as a no-name player you could win from a claw machine or a dollar store - basic function, no shuffle mode, requires a mini-SD card for storage, and mine stopped working after changing the battery. On the upside, I got a lot of play time out of a single AAA battery.

I not only have Soundwave, but I got the Rumble/Frenzy Earbuds to go with him.

Like the others said, it's a better novelty then function. The MP3 player isn't good at all and the Earbuds are cumbersome to say the least. But they are nifty in idea and Soundwave actually does look pretty good, though in all honesty, that's not really all that hard to do.

Picked up the figure a month or so ago. Took a while to get a micro to mini SD adapter (originally got the wrong adapter in the mail from a seller). It still works. Light turns on. MP3 qualify is of course horrible with lots of static / interference.
