Looks like one of the spin-off of the TF Prime anime shorts. Wasn't one of those a blue car like this?

The tech/engineering is something the company that Takara partnered with is slightly known for. They've done other robots like this but those weren't in partnership with Takara. They transform pretty much the same though. Ran into a youtube video of them earlier this year that was from last year or older. Forget what the date was on it.

 

It's the first one and they have to do Skids? Why?

 

I'm so excited! I've been keeping up with J-deite long before their collaboration with Takara, since their first YouTube video actually. I remember seeing the plans to make a lifesize one as a kid and thinking it was so ridiculous, but here we are.  

 

Why do these things always look like KO's from the 80's

Yeah, the yellow on the chins I guess and the antenna but it also does look like Skids too. Hopefully, this one will make more than the Farrah Fawcett appearance the original Skids made in G1.

I do think it's funny that the very first one of these I saw was at some point in the nineties, a big pickup that transformed into a robot, and could actually move around a little in bot mode, then transformed back. Apparently there's no one actively pursuing the tech to make this happen because this doesn't look that much more impressive than that one did and that's been at least twenty plus years ago at this point.

It is cool, don't get me wrong, but I'd expect some small level of progress in that amount of time. I suppose every team that tries to do it starts at ground zero, rather than attempting to improve on what came before. Here's to knowledge saturation on this particular track of engineering so we can start progressing.

Very Impressive. The leg transformation is very G1 if you ask me.

 

I'm curious what things will be like in a few years, if we'll have transforming cars that are almost as good-looking as the actual fictional Transformers. This is about the third thing like this in the past few years, and they'll just get better.
