Is it possible? Maybe Tak-Tomy/Hasbro after seeing how popular Star Saber was, I mean he won the voting. Do you think Victory re-issues are a possibility?

That's because TT picked the 'winner' before the poll started.

We're on the 30th anniversary of the franchise, and we've not even seen reissues of earlier, more widely known, G1 characters.

Sadly, i think the odds are not good.

Landcross was reissued sorta? I mean, it was a random box set-up but it happened right! :)

I would think that a Star Saber reissue would be a no-brainer as an upcoming Encore. It might be a case of just not having the molds anymore, as they established with Rescue Force/Liokaiser. They could conceivably rebuild them, but I'd probably pass.

I've played with a lot of the Victory toys, and the fascination wears off quick. The combiners (Liokaiser, Landcross, Road Caesar) are amazingly bricky, Deszaras' dual-breastmasters are fun for a bit, but the funky space-chicken kaiju is not that menacing for an Emperor of Destruction. Star Saber is quite awesome as leaders go, though the combination with Victory Leo has always been a bit odd to me - his claim to fame is splitting in half to make a pair of platform shoes? That's terrifically geewun and all, but it's just not something I would go out of my way to pick up on reissue. That being said, I have always loved Victory, loved the series, loved the characters, and always wanted more - it's just that the toys were never worth the price to me. MP Victory? Oh hell yes. I would do shameful things to obtain modern updates of those characters.

They could re-issue the whole line of Victoy and I'd get every one. It's to bad, I wish they would do more with the Encore line. Just collecting MP figures just isn't doing enough to satisfy my collecting nature. :D

Same for me. I wouldn't definitely buy most of them anyway. The problem for me is I don't like to "play" with Masterpieces. They are collector pieces to be displayed. They are too fragile and too big to play with for me. Maybe even more classics like Leozack.

So much for those people "in the know" from the "rumors" thread saying these were going to be re-issued last year:redface2:

Yep, and since they did him after they ran out of Micromaster combiners I was always hoping/expecting they'd reissue Dinoking in that style, sans the Pretender shells. Monstructor would've been a built-in 'chase' version ... or perhaps even milked it with 2 waves: Dinoking & a chase Autobot version in G1 Dinobot colors, then Monstructor and a black chase version.

I don't know... given the MP coming a reissue of Star Saber strikes me more as a "no-brainer" thing to not do.

Yeah, I could see them releasing the G1 version after the MP one. I don't see why they would take away excitement/possible sales away from the new MP.

Yet they will release half a dozen Primes within the same year? If Star Saber is as popular as Takara wants him to be, then why not? They don't seem to be afraid of putting several big-ticket items out at once, they seem to regard SS as one of the hall of fame leaders, so.....it wouldn't have to be a same-day release as the MP, but it doesn't seem like such a crazy idea. I doubt it would perform worse than Sixshot and Fort Max, who both seemed to do OK at the same time they were doing MP releases, Encore Fort Max, Gens Metroplex, and Alternity exclusives.

I can see it happening, yes. Takara's taken more of a random, "Hey, here's this thing"-approach to reissues of late.

Doesn't mean it will though. They could pivot and do something else random (set of Headmasters, Dai Atlas, Abominus, who knows), or do nothing.

I am curious if MP affects Encore and new MPs do in fact lessen the odds of a G1 reissue. There was that rumor too of Dai Atlas and Star Saber getting reissues that came out last year, I think, but it turned out Takara changed their minds or something like that.

You mean the circa 2005 one? Or was it reissued more recently?
Despite TT saying Encore Fortress Maximus sold well, they just seem indifferent to more reissues these days.

But then after 13 years of reissues, a lot of us are still scratching our heads at some of the choices they make, or don't.

    Is "they" here always Takara/Tomy?

Half a dozen Primes in the same year.... 1.) Probably not all "big ticket" items, 2.) If they are multiple big ticket Primes they're supported by a major motion picture, not a ~25 year old cartoon.

Sixshot performing well... maybe, I don't know... they never bothered with even an ehobby release of Greatshot. Also, I'd guess Sixshot and most other reissues had the molds easily available and likewise I'd guess since Star Saber hasn't been reissued while being a prominent G1 character(hall of fame, etc as you mention) it probably means his mold is not available, thus a reissue of him would entail creating new molds, thus a much bigger startup cost to doing a reissue of him than these others, thus requiring he must perform exceptionally better than ther others to "equal" their success.

Fort Max performing well with Alternity and Generation Metroplex out around the same time. Um... I don't think Alternity and a reissue are very similar purchases and I do believe the Fort Max reissue came out before we knew of Metroplex, right?

An encore and an MP of Star Saber are much more similar products. The markets of people interested in one is going to highly overlap with the people interested in the other. Releasing two similar big ticket items in the same time frame for the same market doesn't sound like the smartest thing to me.

Now, if an encore of Star Saber had happened before we knew an MP was coming, I'd be all for it and think it was a great idea. But with the knowledge of MP Star Saber coming, an encore loses some of it's "oomph". Many people that have an original aren't going to be as interested. Many people that didn't have an original and would've wanted a reissue might have their itch well satisfied with the MP.

MP Ultra Magnus is coming soon. Is this a great time to reissue G1 Ultra Magnus? He hasn't been in reissued in about 10 years or more. He may have the disadvantage of being reissued before, but then that means he doesn't have the cost of creating new molds either that Star Saber might have.

MP Wheeljack's coming soon. Is it a good time to reissue him? He hasn't been reissued but would probably have the new molds cost. For him, I actually would say it'd be good to reissue him along with the MP.... but that's because neither would be such a big ticket item as Star Saber.

You seem to be arguing something I never said - I said "upcoming" Encore release, not "release it at the same time". We know Encores are few and kinda far between. As I said, it doesn't have to be the same season. There's no point in arguing potential economics of it because we have no idea what an Encore would cost, and we have no idea what the MP is going to cost. The only idea is whether to release Star Saber in multiple varieties or not, something they have no compunction doing with other characters that seem to be as highly regarded as Star Saber is.
