Rather than a tank, or gun, I thought it'd be cool if Megatron's secondary mode was essentially a Cybertronian weapons platform. Maybe something like the Deathbringers in Horizon: Zero Dawn.

There are a few times where writers recognize the perpetual state of war the Autobots and Decepticons are in, and that always makes for an interesting story/characterization.

I've never liked the 4 million+ year lifespan especially with younger characters like Hot Rod, Blurr or Siren.

I second that. Especially when there's that "lack of new life creation due to war", but there are still young characters... it confuses me.
However, it's not... illogical? Since mechanical lifeforms would, theoretically, be harder-to-kill-by-natural-death than, say, puny humans?

Sure, they'd be harder to kill, but given their long lifespans, it just gives life more opportunities to kill you, even if that long lifespan is only a millennium vs millions of years.

I have to agree with this wholeheartedly. Even just reducing their overall lifespan to a millennium and making the war a centuries-long affair would still make them old as dirt and their war an eternal nightmare.

If there's one thing I can claim knowledge in its mechanics, and there's no way complicated machines like the Transformers could last millions of years without either being digital beings independent of their bodies (not canonical) or going full argonaut paradox.

Nothing lasts that long, not organics, not machines or civilizations or even the damned coastlines. I'd wager that even digital beings would experience fragmentation and degradation over time, thus leading to their eventual corruption and destruction. Very good point there.

By the way, what's the Argonaut paradox in this context? I know who the Argonauts were, but not how they might relate to this topic.

I may have gotten the name wrong, but its the question "how many pieces of a ship can you replace until you're no longer in the same ship" usually tied to their ship the Argo.

I meant that if it is possible to replace all your body parts then you may technically be immortal but I doubt such beings would have any permanence of their individual character replacing their brain parts.

I see what you're talking about - it's like the old joke about somebody owning George Washington's cherry tree-chopping ax - "Sure it's his ax, I just replaced the head a couple of times, and the handle's been replaced a few more times." I think that's why sparks were introduced in Beast Wars, to provide something irreplacable, especially since in Beast Wars, decapitation was like getting a broken collar bone. Sure, you were down for the fight, but you weren't in any danger of dying from it.

Here's a thought that I occasionally entertain: what if Prime Raf isn't a human, but a cybertronian pretender?
I mean... with how he understands Bumblebee's cybertronian morse from get-go, not matter how smart he may be, he's highly likely not a human. And by that point there have been cases of not-so-human partners. Original concept of Pretenders, techno-organics like Sari... still, I think Raf is a pretender. Maybe cybertronian atmosphere wouldn't even harm him. Did we ever see his family? For all we know, there might have been a little colony of cybertronians under everyone's nos- lack of noses and both factions were none the wiser.

Perhaps as Minicon refugees fleeing the war, only to watch their child get dragged into it? Sounds like a neat plot idea to me.

Wait, he was? I only really remember Deszaras and Primal since I didnt vote in it. That’s a really interesting development though. Wonder if there is more to this...

Yeah, if I remember correctly it was him, Arcee, Magnus, Shockwave, Megatron, Thunderwing, Star Saber, Primal, and "Unknown Evil" Deszaras.
