Hello peeps, Here we have my project to build a Rack & Ruin to join my Wreckers, given up waiting for Hasbro or another company to make one (maybe one day) I used images from all there comic appearances UK marvel, Regenerations & idw, plus other peoples customs of this pair for ideas then drew out multiple views of what I wanted with rather base figures I got to make them from which were 2 movie Megatrons cheap KO's. I liked there appearance in idw briefly where they have there masks off and wanted to use the toys original heads reshaped as a homage to that but as time went on I found it a struggle to fit them in to only domed things I could find to make the helmets from so unfortunately has to give up on it despite putting a lot of time into them alone.
I joined them together using the existing screws and fixing on the upper arm, even managed to get some articulation from it too
I used the hammers as a base from Apex and Gemini (Topspin & Twintwist) as have no intention of them using them then regspedc them with other bits to resemble the Anvil and Hammer
Then onto painting which I ended trying a light one first but wasn't happy, then tryed a more olive drab military look, happier then but still not content so 3rd night mixed up a more green/yellow mix to lightly go over that then the details were added. Unfortunately though these figures suffered with really loose thigh joints that no amount of clear nail polish could fix, so tryed a little super glue building up layers gradually while moving the joint. Then I came to apply the autobot decals and take the last pics and his leg snapped clean off! Hence not so dramatic posses until I get that fixed. Anyway its Hammer time!
Thanks, I was shopping around for a few months trying to find some fairly articulated figures for a reasonable price then these came up and thought I could make it work.
There was times where I didn't think I could make the molds work actually started back in March and got a bit stuck but the great thing about this site is I have learnt so much from the radicons section I've been able apply new techniques to make things work down the line. So thank you everyone on here that has taught me what I now know. I've been wanting to do some of these customs since I was a kid but glad I'm doing them now with what I've learnt.
Fixed his leg now with some drilling and a pin, dam that super glue. Quick question I've always assumed Rack is the one on the left with the Anvil and Ruin is the one with the Hammer/Mallet is this correct or has it never really been clarified? Cant find much about it when looking them up.
Good fix! As for who is who...If I am correct, and remember correctly, they are treated as one, and not each with a name.
I'm only simply familiar with the character, but your custom looks great! Seems like you had a lot of fun with it.
Some of it was fun while one bit 3 nights of attempts to glue the panels on the legs after melting down the plastic underneath to fit with different glues. Finally hot glue gun did the trick.
Just found this while reading Requiem of the Wreckers which made me happy as I struggled to find the autobot badge placement in any of my source pictures as none have really got there badges on? I wish idw had done a spotlight or origins to explain a bit more back story for them I remember reading somewhere it was necessary to save them by joining them together but that's it and they have always been associated with the Wreckers just be nice if there was a little more to them. Maybe idw's new run might give them a bit more story and maybe even a toy? Hint hint Hasbro...
