Does anyone have any idea on why his chest piece flips up? It's not involved in transformation, so...?

Allow clearance for the hip rotation? That's all I can think of.

It also functions as a latch to keep his legs fixed in vehicle mode, not unlike Universe Sunstreaker.

Yeah, but you don't really need the hinge for that. The posts plug into the legs and even if the chest bonnet was fixed, it would still keep the legs fixed just fine.

It's involved with the transformation of his mold-mate. It raises so Tracks' waist can rotate.

This. And i have found that the extra clearance you get while transforming the toy thanks to that hinge is nice.

The original G1 Wheeljack mold also used to do that. Tracks only had a small hatch on the roof, but Wheeljack's whole canopy would open to insert the microman figures.

Oh cool. I love when they do little homages here and there like G1 Wheeljack being short and stumpy like the G1 toy.

    Diaclone figures were Microman figures.

Fixed. And, as Kusanagi said, not actually fixed :p

    ;)

@Th0r4z1n3: That picture is awesome by some reason. It makes me want to make all the Wheeljack haters bury their keyboards in a ton of mule manure.

Actually for Generations Wheeljack being the repaint, I was extremely surprised at how much it resembled the original.

Actually it's the other way around. Tracks is a retool of Wheeljack, he just got released first.
