I really don't understand how you guys resist opening some of these toys. I just don't think i can do it...

The reason i ask... I just opened my BWR-01 Convoy vs. Megatron set. I've been telling myself since it arrived, actually more like since i pre-ordered, that this is staying sealed! I already have a loose original Convoy and Megatron. But noooo... ever since it arrived it's been tempting me. And today i finally cracked. I'm afraid the rest of my MISB BW collection is going to start calling out to me soon... But I already have loose versions of them, I want them to stay sealed!!!

I know what you mean. My Universe Sideswipe isn't sealed cause it was never sealed, but I still want to take it out and transform it soooo bad. I keep him on the top shelf and try to fight off the temptation. At least the box has a big display window.

I think toys are better displayed in box.

If I were to play with it ... I'd get bored of the figure after a week, then try to put it back where it came from. If I ever needed the money, I can easily turn my collection into cash, which is much more difficult to do with loose items.

These days. i don't really get 'excited' over getting new stuff. I look at them, think 'Hmm that's fairly cool' and then they're left unopened on my shelf. It's probably gotten to the point where i'm appreciative of the effort that goes into them, but don't really enjoy tinkering with them anymore.

I got news today that my preorder for BWR01 couldn't be filled, and didn't mind, i thought ' ehh, new heads or not, i bought these years back.'

The last time i opened something was Terrashaver back in early Jan, and i've bought at least 50 TFs since then. I look at them sometimes, and wonder if i should open them but the thought of such a thing fails to provide any enthusiasm.

My interest has defiantely slipped a fair bit.

I collect mainly the G-1 stuff. So its reissues or mostly opened stuff. All the Bookstyles remain in their box and to be honest, there is no desire to remove any of them. Great looking packaging helps a lot.

In my collection of 360-something Transformers, only one of them is MOSC: Universe Silverbolt. So how do I resist the urge to open him up, when I open everything else?

Well Boo, if you're having a hard time, I could take a Tigatron off your hands, so you could open the sealed one you have. :D

Here's my first piece of advice: out of sight, out of mind. It's a lot easier to be tempted when they are on shelves all around you. If you REALLY want it to stay perfect, you'll keep it away from UV rays anyway.

Second, buy multiples if possible. I only have 2-3 unopened toys and I definitely have a dupe (or at least something with a duplicate mold) ready to go so I can fidgit if I want.

Third, if the need to play REALLY gets strong, go online and look at every picture you can of the toy. Remy's galleries are great for this. Look at the pictures until you feel like you could transform it with your eyes shut. Get outright BORED with the toy before you can even get it out of the package.

So in summary if you keep your Metals Ravage is shoved into a drawer, you have a Transmetal Cheetor handy, and know for a fact through online reviews and photos exactly what it would be when you get it out of the package....it's (in my experience) about a billion times more likely to stay sealed.

Well, a good job and willpower. Opening them isn't tempting for me, because I own all the original G1 toys loose already. I had most of them from when I was a kid. I have pretty much stopped collecting the toys that aren't G1 based, because with this Cybertron line I realized that I have this huge loose and MISB collection of Armada and Energon TURDS. Why did I spend all this money on this crap? I could have a ton of MISB originals with the dough I spent. Since having a kid, I am seriously considering (as all my friends already have) of either stopping collecting or even selling my entire collection. The money I have spent in the last 10 years on Tranformers would have bought me a Ferrari F430. While I would recoup or ven make more selling my G1 collection, the loss I would take on the BW, Armada and Energon toys would make me sick. Like when I look at my old collection of Spawn that got hurricane demolished. What a waste, even if they were in perfect cards I would have a hard time giving them away.

I only buy loose complete vintage G1 Tfs so on that front I dont have to worry. My e-hobby repaints are all sealed and will remain so. some of my bookcase are sealed a handfull the others are MIB because I opend them out before I started to focus on vintage pieces..

It's an investment really. I actually buy two of most TF's. One to open and one MISB. For two reasons mostly, 1) I have a dupe if my forst one gets broken or lost and 2) If I need money in a large sum in a moderat hurry, I don't have to sell off my main collection.

Tho a real good way I've found to keep a toy MISB and to resist the temptation to open it is to get it autographed by box artist or voice actor of the character. :thumbs2:

As of late I'm more interested in the oddity stuff so when I do get a figure I don't get the urge to open it. Heck, I still have Alt Swindle, Swerve and Sunstreaker still sealed. Unfortunately they may sit that way for awhile. Annoys the hell out of my husband since he thinks that if I put money into a figure it has to be open the night I get. Several times he threatened to return them, but he's starting to understand.

The last TFs that I opened are Cyb Sideways and T-Wreck. I can open them because I bought extra Sideways to keep sealed and I already got BW Japanese Megatron MISB. Nowadays I have no desire to open anything I buy except Alternators since I have Binaltech around in sealed boxes. I take out my loose collection often to display so it's not hard to resist the urge. Unfortunately all those MISB and MOC are clogging up free space and it's coming to a point where I have to keep reorganizing my closet to find extra space for them.

The only MISB items I have are various Starscreams as I already have opened ones. Which leaves no temptation to open them so they can stay pretty in thier packages.

Resale value? Better in a box? It's sick, I tell you.

What's the point of collecting pretty boxes that you can never open?

May as well collect empty ones.

I've got TONS of stuff sealed, not because I'm a MISBer, but because I buy it, sit it on the floor somewhere, and go off and do other things. I've been meaning to open my Cybertron doubles of Prime and Megatron since December when I bought them, but haven't gotten to them yet. Heck, I've got MISB g1 TFs that I have gotten to yet....(see $100 thread).

See... most of my sealed stuff is shoved into my closet on the shelf far out of sight, but I'll be damned if the stuff still doesn't tempt me from there. Also most of my MISBs are doubles, or at the very least repaints of figures I already have loose. Still, though, it's just the need to open something that gets to me. Looking at pictures? Nah... just makes me want to open what i have more, even if I already have the same exact damn toy sitting there loose on my shelf that I've TFed a thousand times.

But I do want to keep my BW doubles sealed... I've seen people's collection pics that have the loose guy standing next to/in front of his MISB double and it just looks sweet. I have to get over the desire to rip open the boxes, though. :huh
