So ive seen people in the forums say they are only licesned product all they way and that they dont and wont every own a third party item, my question is why ? i mean i understnad not liking a figure based on something about the actual figure but it seems that to deprive yourself of some of the best stuff we as transformer fans have had is kind of a shame. I saw on sibertron.com that they guy there doesnt post about third party stuff anymore when he used to, i find it hard to believe that supporters dont like third party items as figures but just because they aren't "official". So id like to know your guys reasoning for only supporting licensed figures

Non official products kill official products. And they are too expensive. Buying third party toys is the same like buying knock offs. I don't support piracy of intellectual property. I have no problem with add-ons and weapon packs, but full fledged figures are a no go.

i disagree with the killing official products as the majority of third party supporters still buy the offical products as well.......now straight ko's may kill official sales but these are normally done after the official product has sold out ie: ko's of tfs that sold out 20 years ago

    How so?

I don't exactly disagree with everything else you say, even if it's not the philosophy that I follow.

Just that part stuck out to me.

[edit] and apparently so it did to a bunch of other people as well.

Just think of all the sales of Generations Devastator killed by Hercules and Giant! Oh wait, there is no Generations Devastator!

Then there were all the sales of Cyberverse Erector killed by TFcon Shafter.... no they didn't make that either.

Okay, I know, we have that really cool Hasbro Classic series Springer with 3 modes and looks like the original toy, with diecast and... no wait they didn't make they either.

What does Hasbro make that was killed by a 3P again?

yeah a straight knockoff will hurt maybe depending on quality and price but third party is usual something hasbro hasnt or wont make for variety of reasons so its giving more figures not always replacements there is a few , like hegemon is better than classics megatron for example

    No they don't.

If anything it's the other way around. Remember that Third Party Drift from years ago? Exactly. And sometimes, as seems to be the intended case, they compliment eachother, like the re-release of Energon Bruticus because of the Fansproject upgrade. (Because I seriously doubt that mould is popular enough on it's own)

How could they kill official products? If anything, it seems to have motivated some official products, or at least they've been a testbed before the official products were released:
    MP-10 (Faith Leader)
    MP-11 (PP03 series)
    Bruticus (various 3P combiners)
    Soundwave (FT's aborted release)
Hasbro and Takara obviously won't hold something back if there's a competing third party toy - their recent track record seems to indicate the exact opposite, where they will put out an official release that directly competes with a third party toy.

I would also find it hard to believe that the reason we don't have a Reflector is because there are already two third party versions out there, nor could anyone convince me that Hasbro/Takara will hold back on future combiners because we are getting third party Predacons and Stunticons. Does anyone want to try and argue that MMC's Hearts of Steel line is the reason Hasbro hasn't given us any toys from that line? It's a ridiculous argument

for me it's a measured thing...I was reading a book and a character asked "if what they were doing was legal" to which the other character replied "Legal? or moral?"

And that sums it up for me. Unfortunetly there is nothing Illegal about what 3rd party does, but it's not always Moral....in my view which is what a lot of Morality boils down to.

My Personal view (and nothing more than that) is "Do I have to buy an official product to enjoy this item?" If it's something like City Commander, Shadow Scyther, Battle Tanker, Igear Kups head.....then hey this enhances an item I paid money to the rights holder for.

Then you have things like Hercules, UFO, Warbot Defender, now you are stealing an idea. and is it Illegal? Sadly no, because it uses "Original Engineering" but is it Moral? I don't think so. (and Again I said I THINK) what compounds this is when Hasbro DOES officially release a new product it is invariably A) Held up in comparison to the third party product & B) found to be lacking comparably resulting in people proclaiming they don't need to buy the official one....they have the third party item. interestingly these are often the same people who drop $100+ per 3rd party figure and then whine about a $2 higher price on an official product.

Hope this helps the OP understand the viewpoint a touch better, and again it's only my opinion

With the exception of his comment on killing official product, Murasame pretty much answered your question.

Just read the respective sentences on IP theft and 3P products being expensive and ignore the rest?

i understand your opinion and appreciate your answer but let me ask you this , take GDo springer for example im the opposite as you said i dont have warbot and didnt want to pay the price for him so GDO springer is my classics springer for alot less, not as good as a figure but for away less cost i have the character i want. so basically if an official product comes out i feel like people will still get it because of price alone , a hasbro devastator would be about 100$ it would still sell well because of the kids and parents as well as us collectors who would be interested in it

the lack of quality in hasbro's transformers as compared to 3rd party stuff means that I buy a lot less "official" toys than I used to.

Yeah, 3rd party toys are WAY more expensive, but in the end, I enjoy playing with those transformers so much more. :)  Isn't that what counts?

By the way....in my opinion, the lack of quality I ways talking about in reference to hasbro is the cheaper plastic they use in producing figures, the higher cost of these figures (they used to be around $10 bucks, now $15 for deluxe figures) and what appears to be lesser engineering in their toys (FOC Bruticus, anyone?).

Again, this is my OPINION and anybody that disagrees with me is free to do so. I swear I won't call you a big dumb dumb head or anything. ;)
