To start, let me state that I am aware of 'The Scale Issue' in the Transformers world, and I understand that it can be an exercise in futility trying to get everything in perfect proportion.

That being said, my goal as a collector (in regards to Transformers), is to get one modern representation of every G1 figure, and I'd like them to be in scale with each other (for the most part). I'm a huge fan of the Masterpiece line and the scale it uses and I've basically been using MP Optimus Prime (the new one) as my benchmark for scale.

I've got just about all of the MP figures released thus far, and quite a few deluxe figures from the classics/universe line, as well as a handful of 3P figures and they all seem to mesh pretty well in the way of 'scale.'

So now that you know where I'm coming from, I'm curious about the figures I mentioned in the title (TopSpin, TwinTwist, Swerve & Gears), and how they would fit into a Masterpiece scaled collection.

I am looking specifically at the Demolition Crue Set of DC-01 Apex & DC-02 Geminus by Mech Ideas in regards to TopSpin & TwinTwist, and the Trash-Talk & Cogwheel Set by Make Toys in regards to Gears & Swerve.

They are supposed to smaller figures, right? I know that Swerve & Gears were minibots, so they seem like they would be just fine, but what about TwinTwist and TopSpin? How would they fit into the mix?

Also, while I'm at it, what about the 3rd party Smart Robin AKA Brainstorm figures out there, how do they measure up with the Masterpiece scale?

Again, I know that scale is all over the place in the 30+ years of Transformers toys, but I'm asking in very general terms.

    Thanks for your time!

I own them. They are overly small. Theyre not disappointing to me since I love the size and display ability of my classics. I tried Masterpiece but they just dont fit on a damned shelf. The "twins" so to speak are very small and almost dont fit in with classics as far as how theyre displayed in the comics. Theyre solid and cool to transform but as far as masterpiece display? Theyd be at MP Primes thigh.

How would the twins measure up to a MP Optimus (ballpark) if they were in 'proper' scale?

I'm pretty sure they're "standard" size, so about the same as MP Sideswipe or the Datsuns. I don't think I ever saw them in the cartoon and, if memory serves, they are usually about that size in comic appearances.

i like topspin and twin twist good with the MP scale. to me they are just smaller dudes. the toys were jump starters so i don't consider them as having to be too big.

here's them and some other bots so you can see the sizes.

smart robin and code are not masterpiece "scale" if they need to be as big as the datsun brothers(they are a tad smaller), but they are definitely masterpiece quality construction/design. it makes up for their lack of size to me.

Good question but I think they're fine to fit with MP's. Been in the same position asking myself that. Next step is to find a place to buy them from!

None of those figures you mentioned scale well with mps at all as they are all far too small to work with anything but classics figures, well except maybe FP's brainstorm, he's "ok" but could still be a head or so taller to at least stand at the mp car bots eye level.

Its a shame you're dedicated to mp scale only but then so many people are now and I feel sorry for all of them too. Soon as you decide everything has to work with your mp's you're basically forcing yourself to not buy 99% of the awesome figures that get released since the vast majority of them are not, nor ever will be mp scale.

    I agree.

I keep MPs as a display and collect TW Orion or Classics Prime scale to play with.
MP only means you miss out on a lot of great figures.

I would say Topsin/Twintwist would scale best with TW Orion scale and Gears/Swerve scale best with Classics Prime scale.
Saying that, they go well with each other.

The all mighty scale chart only refers to the toon guys, and top spin and twin twist were not on the scale chart as they were conspicuously absent. They did appear in some marvel uk stuff, but the comic kind of uses its own scale, so bottom line, they have no set scale, so if you want them to be the size of minibots, they are fine, if you want them to be the size of cars, they are not.

The toys were the size of the cars, if that means anything to you. As for Gears and Swerve, the igear guys, while lacking the romance of the idw stuff, are scaled right to mp and look like the toon (more or less). Swerve was only in one episode of the show, but his character model was not the pudgy little hunchback that you are used to.

The fp headmasters, are awesome toys, but too small for mp scale, although the g1 toys were huge, they were car scale on the show.

Tfc combiners scale well to mp in their individual modes, with limb bots being the same height as cars, and the torso being the same height as seekers.

Basically my shelf looks almost exactly like cvprowl's. Go with that, lol.

If you're a scale nazi, then they are severely out of place with MP

If scale is not an issue, put them wherever you see fit.

    :D Say NO to scale-nazism

That said I've got them all with my Classics/Generations displays rather than the MP's as dying breed or not they are still my main focus and probably will be until TT manage to crank their way through everyone I have as a Classsic...........and that will be a while.
