The BBTS listing for their MP-12 says it is the 2nd run Takara which makes it sound like the V2 and not the Hasbro Asia reissue.

MP-12 Masterpiece Sideswipe / Lambor - 2nd Production Run With Collector Coin - Transformers Masterpiece Masterpiece

I have a V1 and would really like the version that doesn't have the squinty eyes which from what I've seen is the 2nd run of the Takara. It supposedly came with the Red Alert head and the Hasbro Asia release went back to the V1 head sculpt. Has anyone bought this recently from BBTS? Does it have the different eyes? I'd like to get it as soon as possible if it is the "fixed" eyes.

The one you want is the one I sold off a while ago . I opted for the Hasbro Aisa reissue cause I wanted a V1 with the correct face an better paint app. Only one of them worked out in my favor ....

I bought the same Sideswipe from BBTS a couple of months back, and its the one you want with the second face sculpt.
Also the coin it came with is the original.

Mine was perfect with no flaws in paint apps.

 

I just placed the order. Thanks so much for the pics and answers guys. It always bothered me having the original face sculpt since Sideswipe is my favorite character. Hopefully it's still the same as the ones you guys got.

 

What's wrong with the first face sculpt?

 

Mine had paint flaws and the Autobot symbol on the chest/hood is crooked. Rather disappointed with it to be honest.

 

I just really don't care for the anime-ish looking face. I would probably be ok with it if he wasn't my favorite character, but it has just always bothered me. Since I originally paid $90 for my V1 when it came out and he's $70 now, I can stomach that if it gets me a better looking face and then I will also have an alt mode to display with the bot mode.

It's mainly Sunsurge's fault. Sideswipe's face just doesn't match at all.

 

Or ...maybe, it's sunsurge that doesn't match the MP aesthetic.... ( ducks an runs from 3rd party enthusiasts ...... )

I haven't been paying attention to the reissue (had my Swipe since Oct '12) but if it's got the better face I think I have to join you in getting a replacement. I'm not a fan of Ol' almond eyes..........

Are the panel gaps on the sides still as bad?

 

Unfortunately I find MP-12's face sculpt to be the worst of the MPs by a pretty wide margin.

I have V2 (at least, I'm pretty sure I do - I bought it last summer from BBTS) and it just doesn't feel like the character at all. Or consistent with the aesthetic of the rest of the line.

Generally TTs face sculpts are fantastic though, so it's a little disappointing for such a great character. Prowl, Ironhide, Bluestreak, etc. are all fantastic.

I think MP-11 is also one of the weaker ones as well.

 

I had no idea that Sideswipe was officially released with the non-squinty eyes. I thought all reissues/2nd runs had the squinty eyes. I really wanted at least one figure from this mold but none of them appealed to me. I didn't like Sideswipe's squinty eyes, G2 Sideswipe's angry face, Red Alert's faux shoulder wheels. Clampdown would have been my most wanted figure from this mold if he had this Sideswipe head and the Sideswipe shoulders without the faux wheels. I hope BBTS still has some left when I can scrounge up some extra cash.

 

I think the pics that Go-Faster-Wings and TheDecepticon posted look much better than the one I have. I would be happy with that face. The face is "better enough" that I would even be OK if I got one with the slightly crooked logo. I really don't like the face on mine.

Of course if it so happens they end up sending the Asia re-release to me instead of the 2nd run with the original coin, I will be pretty sad. I'm hoping since it's the same product ID and the pics show the old coin that the one with the better eyes is the one they still have.
