ok, i was watching the episode legacy again and there was something i didnt realy get. a few minutes in the autobots are talking about training smokescreen with a human. ratchet then comments "please, isnt having 3 humans around here enough". after that, everyone just stares at him with shocked faces, i dont really get that. why exactly are they shocked?

it was a really rude statement... Imagine it as a matter of race here on earth, instead of interspecies. or sexism. "Please, isn't having 3 (blacks, Jews, women, etc) enough?"

I support people with intellectual disabilities in their pursuit of employment. So I have been told by various people who run stores that "They already have some ******ed employees" on their staff as an excuse to not have any job openings. As if there was a quota...

Kind of on topic, and i have been looking for a spot to say so - I really hate how often the word "******ed" is thrown around as an insult around here. No one tolerates the n-word around here, or the f-word for gays.... but somehow ******ed is okay. It's not.

    ^^^ this! Well said!!

And yeah, I was rather surprised that Ratchet said that.... after all he'd been through with humans, I thought he would respect them a bit more than that ...but it's Ratchet :)

I always thought it was because they meant that (And Ratchet should have known it) they would have one of their present humans help him.

Serious? I know there are moments he's happy the children are around, but it's been made clear, repeatedly, how much he despises our world and just about everything on it. He can barely tolerate the children, which is probably Raf's doing (why he can), but we saw in the season finale how quickly he was to right them off.

Optimus erred by not pairing Ratchet up to a human. Arced, Bumblebee and Bulkhead had the good fortune of being around them long enough to be reminded about the things they're fighting for--people get on Arcee for jumping on teammates for jeopardizing missions/putting allies in harms way, but She GETS it!

Wasn't it Mr. Combs who described Ratchet as that old grumpy uncle families hate to talk about? Ratchet is old and very set in his ways; he can't accept change, he longs for things in the past--pretty ironic for a Transformer. He knows humans are intelligent beings, but treats them as inferior ones.

The children have been constant reminders of our ability to adapt or transform, but even so, Ratchet still thinks of his people and past as better ones.

I hope the humbling events of season 2 finally open his eyes.

My grandfather is cranky too but he WOULD get a odd look if out of nowhere he said something like "UH DON'T WE HAVE ENOUGH *insert racial group here* AROUND HERE?!"

I personally always saw it as the others saying 'who says we're adding another human to the fold?'

y'know, given all the fanfics of relitives or friends of the current three humans meeting the Autobots. :wink :lol

It's more of Prime's awkward "humor." To clarify: It's not funny because it's awkward, it's awkward because it's not funny.

I agree to a point, but - remember when Megs blasted Bumblebee and Raf with dark energon and Raf almost died - well, Ratchet was almost out of his mind with his inability to help Raf. He realized that his tools were all wrong, that he never bothered to learn about human anatomy, and he even admitted to Prime that he has come to need Raf. That was an important moment for Ratchet. So, yes, Ratchet sees humans inferior, but now that I rethink this comment (the topic of the thread), I think that Ratchet doesn't entirely hate all humans, rather he sees them more as a source of worry (they damage easily).

He have some sort of love hate relationship to humans.
There is also the episode where he ruins the kids science projects. :)

And i don't think he meant it in more discriminating manners then we would say "please, isnt having all those ants around here enough"
They are just to squishy for his taste.
"Then, for the time being, Ratchet, we must watch where we step." Optimus to Ratchet

There were definitely times when he cared and showed concern for their well-being (eg saving Jack from Knockout in Flying Mind), but how hard would it have been for him to tell the children to duck into an ally so that he could open a Ground Bridge for them to use to go home or to the Autobot base? When he doesn't need them (humans) he sees them as a nuisance.

The children and Agent Fowler have given him and his brethren so much and he can't even be bothered to help with such a mundane thing:/

I always thought it was because he complains about "isn't having 3 humans enough" when they are on a planet with 6-7 billion of them. When Ratchet said it, I was like "Wait, you're on a planet with billions of them................."

Ratchet hates/dislikes/rather not have humans around. Saying three is enough is basically saying, 'we already have the kids here, why do we need more people around?'...

Ratchet is a parody of the fan base that thinks humans already are pointless to the over all plot of the shot and oh boy he misjudges them so many times that it
ultimately led to the failure to revive their homeworld and destruction of their base and seperated the team.

Kind of on topic... because I'm replying to something "kind of on topic". Paralleling '******ed' to the n-word or f-word is a bad analogy. The n and f words are terms used in US/world history meant to refer to certain classes of people as if they are less than human.

On the other hand, '******ed' was the true clinical term for individuals with that condition for a very long time. The word was never to dehumanize them, but to give a medical diagnosis. Then the PC (politically correct) crowd went over board and decided a clinical term was unacceptable. Yet now you use the term "Intellectually Disabled" and other terms are "Mentally Handicapped", or "Developmentally Challenged".

Do you really think that not far into the future, the same PC crowd wont again become disgruntled over the inclusion of 'disabled', 'handicapped', or 'challenged' in the terminology? "It makes them feel bad *tears*" they'll say just as they said about the medical term '******ed'. No suddenly it will become "Nuerologically Alternate" otherwise you're insensitive.

There are some terms which do need to be addressed for political correctness, such as the n and f words. But others are just because someone decides to have a wooden stick shoved up their ass.

Yeah, I agree. It would have taken him two seconds to open a bridge for the kids. However, I've been wondering: 1. was Ratchet just really distracted and didn't see the potential for the kids to come into harm's way?; or 2. Did Prime tell Ratchet to keep the kids out of the loop and away from the base, and we just don't know about it until next season?

I don't know about Ratchet sometimes. He's like a con trying to be a bot sometimes. Where's a dinobot to munch on him when he acts crancky when you need one.

    1) Opening a bridge in front of the school in broad daylight would not have been a good idea 2) he needed to stay in touch with Prime in case he and the team needed to bridge out of there fast and 3) he had no way of knowing the Decepticons had located the kids.
