The deal is if RG1 is a continuation of the marvel run then the IDW continuation of G.I. Joe marvel run shouldn`t exist because megatron destroyed human civilization around 1995 and after all these two franchises share the same universe.
Good point, albeit, ultimately, they can be two different interpretations post Marvel G1. I assume TFs never show in Hama's continuation, so we just assume they've entirely left Earth alone. If you count RG1, AND G2, AND IDW Hama-Joe, AND a couple other bits (Earthforce), there are like, 5 or 6 different potential continuations of Marvel G1. =)
That`s why Generation 2 comics fits better because in it megatron never got a chance to totally destroy the earth, thus G.I. joe could go on with their story.
One thing I've never thought of until now is the fact that a city (San Fran?) gets nuked in G2 which is explicitly connected to GI Joe, yet that is never touched on in GI Joe as far as I can remember.
And Fleetway G2, and Classics continuity, and Peace, and earthforce, and all the anual stories that dont fit in the main continuity, and ...
Hmm. I think that after the crossover where Joe rebuilds Megatron, and he takes out the Worst Team Ever sent to stop him, Joe and tf marvel g1 diverge. Original marvel just moves on in Joe and doesn't recognise g2 (even though the Joe "featuring tf" is explicitly a setup to g2 lol). So hell it splits off even before marvel Joe is cancelled.
It's ambiguous. You can choose to see it that life wasn't ended on Earth in G2, but we never do see any humans again after the point Jhiaxus nukes (?) San Fransisco. And the showrunner of Beast Wars took it to mean all of humanity was wiped out.
Transformers seems to be mere fictional characters in Hama's continuation since Transformers toys from different eras (movie and generations) appeared as cameos in at least one comic (of course, it could just be a mere easter egg but ehh).
