Was just watching (IMO) a horrible Need For Speed movie and it accrued to me.

In the early conceptual phase for Drift (before he was named) his design was done up to show him as a black and orange Bugatti based Samurai. But his final version is now the Dark blue on light blue.

Does anyone think they changed him to the Blue on Blue because the colors they had him at in concept were already used on a black an orange Bugatti in Need For Speed, and did not want to cause any confusion between the 2 movies? I mean both movies at one point were shooting side by side in Detroit and some people did mistake Need For Speed sets as TFs sets.

I think they did it because black and orange are SOOOOO far from any iteration of Drift (well...the one iteration of Drift :/) that they didn't wanna risk fan upset. And trust me, we're fucking nuts about that little shit.

Well Drift has only ever been White and Red before, so actually the Orange would have been a closer match than the Blue.

Personally I think the orange actually looks better, but I find it likely that Bugatti recommended the Blue version as they had already agreed to use the Orange in NFS.

I think the orange looks too villain like, the blue looks more heroic

Maybe since Lockdown has a bit of orange on him, they wanted to distinguish Bot from Con.

No, each big screen time character needs to be a different color so they stand out against each other. Someone decided Stinger was better as the red one so Drift needed to change.

Think Power Rangers, and how each character is differentiated by color.

Sorry bud but that's a bunch of BS. Why? Because if that was the case they would not have both crosshairs and hound in green. Or Dino and Leadfoot in red for that matter in DOTM. And if drift would have stayed Black and orange, he would have stood out ok against Stinger as Drift would have mostly been black.

you think crosshairs and hound are both the same color?

You think Leadfoot was a main character in DOTM?

Leadfoot was more of a main character than Dino was lol. And while not the same green, I think crosshairs and hound are a lot closer in color than a mostly black with some orange (drift) would have looked like next to a almost all red stinger lol.

Leadfoot , Sentinal and Dino were all red. Bee and Ratchet were both shades of yellow in first movie.

Lockdown has a tiny bit of orange. That was not the reason.

Good. Now that we can agree that both Dino and Leadfoot are terrible examples and don't follow the rule i originally stated, lets put them off to the side.

At a glance anytime you have important characters you need distinction between them. Just fundamental design. You don't want everyone looking the same. Everyone looking the same is an army, you want to give characters life. And especially if they are complex, you need some clear cut distinction.

There are a couple of rules for this, but I think if you put yourself in a designer's shoes you can come up with some answers.

Think on it, if you can't come up with the answers I'll tell you.

Ok I understand about wanting characters to stand out and no look alike. But my over all point was just that I think they moved away from drift being the black and orange Bugatti because Need For Speed already had that color lol. Paramount probably did not want to have two movies about cars with the same exact Bugatti in them. Now as for colored are concerned for multiple characters in the TFs movies, if your example was what paramount and Bay was intending, you would think they would have made Stinger purple or something so people would stop thinking ever dead red vehicon is him lol.

I think Stinger would of looked a lot better in purple to be honest.

Wtf? So according to your logic, they changed him to black and blue because black and blue is closer to white and red?

    ..............ok

I have a better idea, as the movies do not follow your 'rule', let's put your 'rule' off to the side.

The explanation behind this link will help you to get your head around it. I know its a complex concept, but stick with it and it'll sink in.

its actually a dark blue and light blue. I thought it was black at first too but its not. The first concept for him was black and orange.
But the Bugatti in the movie is indeed dark blue on light blue.

    and lmao!
