Why was Crosshairs so insubordinate? He really seemed like he didn't want to be a member of the Autobots; he actually had to be threatened with death in order to comply. I find it odd that he was the rebellious one of the group, considering the rumors that Drift is the one who is a former Decepticon.

Yeah, agree and remember this scene
When Prime introduce the dinobots he says:"There's not fricking way i'm following this guy, no way"
When Prime defeated Grimlock:" I just wanna die for the guy, that's leadership":ev:

He's a dick, he even want Bee and Drift to kill eachother so that he could be the captain of the team. Though he may not really mean that

Probably because Crosshairs did not give a shit about the humans and wanted to "get off this rock".

Ever since the beginning, I had a weird feeling about Crosshairs. His altmode hardly screams robot in disguise. He doesn't care about hiding from anything really. His main objective as I see is to be flashy and look flashy while doing a task. His ego goes hand to hand with his appearances, so he challenges leadership at every corner because he's most likely the bot who doesn't like to be told what to do. He's basically the Autobot version of Starscream, vying for command or control. The end bit in the forest where Crosshairs said that Optimus showed either great leadership or brainwash was kind of like a coming full circle of Crossshairs somewhat accepting him, as Optimus showed dominance over Grimlock. Instead of acknowledging he could do it, Crosshairs instead shifted the blame over to brainwash.

Crosshairs is an easy to understand character, which I like. He's not a mindless drone, and he questions others before blindly following authority. His reason I would assume from his appearance is to maintain his status he's a high level combatant.

Drift may have been a former decepticon, but he has always put honor over everything, so when he discovered the autobots were nothing but honorable, he had no problem falling in line. As for crosshairs, he reminded me of transformers prime wheeljack. He wasnt afraid to challenge authority, and he acted like he wanted to be alone, when in reality he just didnt want to get too close to anyone. You can tell he genuinely is an autobot at heart towards the end when he admires primes leadership by saying "you just wanna die for the guy..." and I didn't really think he was serious when he said he wanted to leave prime and Tessa, he was just distraught/grumpy about the situation they were in

Why not just defect to the Decepticons?

    EDIT:

What do you mean his alt-mode hardly screams robot in disguise? It's a car.

Because Autobot ≠ good guy as much as people think. I loved the fact that aside from Prime, the Bots were all jerks. Made em seem more believable. Noone is gonna be all high on someone who was trying to kill them.

Crosshairs seems like the one to go the path of least resistance unless there's something in it for him. He's like Mirage or Sunstreaker in that sense. He almost makes me wish Sideswipe returned and Crosshairs WAS Sunstreaker.

Where this idea all Autobots were good or nice guys comes from interests me. A lot of them were jerks from the beginning, united by Optimus. That makes sense when you consider they are all Cybertronians and Autobot and Decepticon are just choices.

Crosshairs, "You just wanna die for the guy" does a lot of character building for Optimus. Stuff like it made Prime feel more like... well Prime.

As stated by someone else, in the end when Crosshairs says you just want to die for a guy like Optimus Prime (I butchered that quote), it shows that deep down he holds a lot of admiration for Optimus Prime. Honestly, I think the ego Crosshairs has stems from his respect for Optimus that he doesn't want to acknowledge. He wants to instead try to impress his Autobot commander by being flashy as well as quick to take charge. His stubborn headstrong attitude could be a very dumbed down imitation of Prime's headstrong attitude.

He told you why he's not a Con... better leadership aka Optimus Prime.

I think he means his car mode doesn't scream disguise or avoiding attention, it screams "LOOK AT ME".

    Exactly.

That Corvette Stingray is garish and ridiculous in every way. But I love it. Why?

Because it fits the character's personality spot on.

Because that was his personality. I don't get why this particular movie can't have an "asshole" character. Tons of other movies do.

This^ Crosshairs reminded me ALOT of Sunstreaker. Before the movie, I could care less about Crosshairs, but after seeing the movie, I really liked him. I couldn't help but think that Bay really missed out on a golden opportunity to have one incredibly badass team, had he included Swipe. Could you imagine: Swipe, Drift, Crosshairs (I would've renamed him Sunstreaker) and Hound all joining Bee and Prime? Then adding the Dinobots ontop of all that.

As for Crosshairs attitude, I think it was more of a mask for him to hide behind. He's probably seen more than his fair share of death and destruction, and doesn't want to get close to anyone just to feel the pain of losing another Bot he cares about.

He's an anarchist, not a fascist. If he's going to have to throw in with some authority, it's going to be the chaotic-good movie Autobots rather than the lawful-evil movie Decepticons.

Gad yes. Sideswipe and Crosshairs buddy film plz.

Crosshairs is just an asshole with a heart of gold deep down. As said, he does respect Prime deep down, but it took his taming of the Dinobots to admit it, in a backhanded way. He's like the DOTM Wreckers, an asshole who will still have your back. He's selfish, always looking out for his number one, but he'll come through when it counts. He didn't really ditch Prime in the Wulong Valley, he just knew it wasn't a good idea to stay out in the open while Prime faced down a Titan five times his side who had three equally large buddies who would eat them when they inevitably beat Prime. And even if Prime won, it's not wise to stay in the range of a battle between him and Grimlock, is it? Even Drift was like "Yup, I'm out too," and retreated to the sidelines.

I do have to say Crosshairs is the biggest dick among the Autobots we've met so far, mostly thanks to the scene where he refused to help look for Prime and Tessa. But he wasn't wrong, their chances were slim, especially trying to find the roaming Tessa on a ship that massive. Crosshairs is just cynical and pragmatic, tempered by his being an asshole.

    Because it's his character!

No one complained about Ironhide, he didn't really care for the humans he questioned why protect them.when they're violent. He even kicks a car with a bomb on into a building....not caring if anyone is in there. But he also has his goodside when Ratchet asks to leave the planet, but he knew optimus wouldn't want that so he stayed.

    Every Autobot is different!

Remember, Crosshairs was originally to be named Slingshot. In G1 slingshot was an Aerialbot that had an attitude problem just like other Autobots in G1. It was not unusual to find characters among the Autobots that didn't go with the program.
