Ahh yes, a classic from the glory days of FPS games where being a LPB made a difference, the game speed was fast, only that one weirdo at the lanparty used a gamepad and got owned constantly, the learning curve looked like a cliff, and no realistic weaponry was involved.

Something that only one game these days manages to come close to(ut3).

If it wasn't that the most likely place I'd want to school you guys in q3a was at work where I don't have a videocard worth squat, I'd have some ownage to dish out.

Yes, I said "ownage", not the "pwnage" crap which spawned from the noobs we laughed at.

Q3A is old but gold, possibly still the best game for manly no-nonsense deathmatching.

Whats even better is that this is apparently a warm up project for folks who are going to start work on a new Arena game next.

    I paid for it!

And to be honest, FPS' have moved on somewhat, as have I. I'm over the twitch stage, I kinda prefer slower paced ones with a tactical overtone. I am old, you know.

There's always been room for slower more tactical FPS games. Tom clancy FPS games have been around for years as well.

The problem is, that I like both, but it seems game developers can't get a twitch FPS right these days(console = automatic fail due to the controller), and 90% of them are wannabe realistic tactical games. I'm sick of ww2, rainbow six, and all of the clones.

IIRC the first Rainbow Six game came out before Arena and Unreal Tourney did.

Ironically, I thought at the time that it looked like too much hassle for most people to bother with.

The first few PC Rainbow Six's were -uber- hardcore though.
