But since you HAVE singled that part out what about ther rest of what I said?

It wasn't in "defence" of anything other than I don't care what anyone else has to say on the morality or otherwise of a purchase. What else you chose to read into it is very much your problem. My issue was with people like you going after the "I'm right so everything else HAS to be wrong" approach too many get caught up with on this issue.

Or perhaps you think the thousands upon thousands of Hastak products I've bought over decades need defending too. And hence your post.

    Partisanship...........Smh.....as the kids say.

I never thought of it as a 'partisanship' issue, but I guess sometimes it is.

generic stickers are just generic stickers, even if their intended use is for official or non official figures. Now, the faction symbol stickers however, are infringing on intellectual property of others.

PE add ons are just that, add ons, same as most of the reprolabels.

In regard to the last part of your comment, I dont know if youre being serious or if you think youre just being cute but im not going to entertain that nonsense.

Reprolabels reproduce official labels without permission, so they are just as no-no

I've never bought a 3rd party mostly because they're too expensive, and because almost all of the stuff has cheaper official counterparts. I'd buy a 3rd party figure if it were cheap and was either an obscure guy without a toy, or a character who HasTak would never make (like, say, a deluxe scale IDW accurate Fulcrum that turns into a bomb)

Unless the sticker designs are copyrighted, there is no problem. As far as I can tell, they aren't, and/or have been made to compliment Hasbro's business model, or doesn't impede it. Therefore, there is no problem. Reprolabels even pops disclaimers to state their products are not genuine and should not be implied as such to others (when selling vintage G1 figs on Ebay, etc).

I'm with you on this topic. I started my MP collection with a view to long term value, i.e. keeping it in the family as an heirloom to pass down through the generations. In many years time I can imagine that the Transformers name might still be recognisable as there would plenty of info in the archives but would anyone still remember what some random, no-name 3rd party product is supposed to be?
(and let's face it, to anybody outside the TF fandom that's pretty much what a 3rd party is)

$150 for a voyager? That's enough reasons right there. I really like that 3rd party is getting in on the action, competing, but I feel bad that they directly steal IP.

If they get their costs down somehow maybe I'd bite. I do feel like Hasbro has been unnecessarily cheap, oil prices have fallen off yet we're still stuck with recession quality. But, I don't think real competition would rescue Hasbro's quality, I feel like if we don't buy their product they will just assume the market isn't there, and abandon physical Transformers faster.

So when Hasbro gets it right, I jump on it. Lately their Legends figure quality seems to be holding up, and Wolfwire hints a possible return to higher quality figures: ankle joints, wrist covers, separate transparent parts, instead of painted over transparent pieces.

If I want a Transformer, the only route for me to go is Takara/Hasbro. Anything else is simply not a Transformer. It may be a transforming toy, whatever...only a licensed product is the real thing, and that's why I don't support 3p anything. Not that I have a problem with those that do; Hasbro/Takara can fight their own legal battles. But if you want a simple answer, that's it. I have no time or money for products outside of the official range.

I can't believe this thread has made it 7 pages without incident.

I DO buy some 3P items, but I didn't always. I got a few upgrade kits, sure. City Commander was great for his time. My reasoning was that I'd rather have official figures rather than expensive ones that would eventually get replaced by "real" ones. I still kinda think that way, but now, with two exceptions so far, I think of the 3P figures as totally different lines. I only actively collect Function X figures (they get their own display, along with toyworld Infinitor and Grant), Lost Realm (again, they get their own little display), and Ryu-Oh (again, their own display). The only exceptions I have are MP Diaclone Sentinel Blaze and Assassinator. There's no TT version anywhere close on the horizon, as we don't even have any hint of the main character of that body type coming out. They'll likely get replaced someday, but I probably have at least two years of enjoyment out of them.

I stick to Hasbro product for the most part due to price. I'm an overnight stocker for a grocery store. and i barely make above minimum wage. so most 3p stuff is out of my price range. as are most takara, funpub, ehobby, million publishing products and pretty much anything on the secondary market.

on the few occasions I've had enough money for a 3p product, I pick up character/designs I "know" Hasbro will never touch. the meager 3p I own is
MMC Knight Morpher Annihilator (Hearts of Steel Nemesis Prime)
    Maketoys Hyper Novae (Nova Prime)
    Fansproject Warbot Steelcore (original character)
    MMC Commotus (Turmoil)
MMC Hexatron (Sixshot, will probably be selling once the official version comes out)
iGEAR Hench (Brawn, will sell when the official version comes out)
    Maketoys Chaos/Paladin (The Fallen)
Igear Madical Specialist (Ratchet, may sell if i can get a UW Ratchet)
    Fansproject Columpio (Sludge)
    Mastershooter Collectibles Brown King (Browning)

I'm already super selective about my Masterpiece purchases as it is (i usually get 1 of each mold) . and since most 3p groups seem to riding that train nowadays its easy for me to ignore them.

there's a lot of 3p stuff that tempts me. but when an official version is announced I usually lose interest in it. the ONE exception thus far for me is Fansproject's Grimlock, because of the bitchin Throne he comes with

I do not buy third party releases because first of all I need to have boundaries to what I collect, otherwise there is no beginning nor an end to my addicti... collection. I would like to keep the costs involved within certain limits, plus it is a matter of having limited space available to showcase my collection, therefore having to make a choice as to what I want to collect. I have therefore chosen only to collect official Masterpiece releases of those characters that appeared in the first four seasons, plus Headmasters if those will ever be released. Also, I often do not like the looks of third party Masterpiece-like releases. Most of the time something just looks off in my humble opinion or their quality is less than of the official releases. They are good attempts, but cannot compete with the official releases I believe.

I really think he was just using it to see who were the extremists on both sides to put on his ignore list.

Have to say, if that was the real objective, well played! :lol
