It's also been reported that the new PSP gets between 8-10 hours of gameplay off the new system.

Did the old PSP perform that well?

lord no. 4-5 hours at best.

and that "TV-out" port that pocket gamer points out next to the headphone jack sure as hell looks like the same port thats on the original PSP, for the remote.

More like the PSP Lite. I still won't pay $200 for a psp.

How about a psp slim and Dracula X Chronicles for $200?

    Sure!

My psp got about 3-4 hours. So we are getting conflicting reports here. One report says that the battery life improves, while another states it will stay the same.

It's actually a less powerful battery than before. So I don't know what to believe.

That is something I always wished the PSP did, considering the video capabilities. For now though, I will stick with the one I have, I can play the videos off my PSP by sticking the mem stick in my PS3.

Making smaller does not equal giving it games. Bad Sony.

Yeah, I agree there are conflicting reports. Kind of makes me laugh how people will judge way too quickly on speculation.

The 8-10 hours came from here:

Theres two models of batteries for the PSP. I have a Launch system so I have the older one. The newer ones have gold text and are currently sold in stores for $40 and I'm assuming have been included in current PSPs. I'm not completley sure but I know it has a higher MAH and is supposed to extend battery life by a bit (I believe 20% but I'm really lazy right now and I don't want to look).

That port next to the headphone jack does look like its just the plug for the headphone remote. They say they improved the D pad but if they still have the Right and Square buttons cut in half like on the old PSP then its still a fail.

yeah the better battery life is also noted here: http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=8043

and supposedly they got rid of the IR port....think i read that in a comment on the site too.

and if the rumors about being outputed video wirelessly but only to DLNA-enabled technology is true...that sucks as from what i can tell, the only one i know if is the PS3....talk about having to do PSP-PS3 connectivity to do anything

Mine has, but that depends greatly on what game you are playing. Tekken? I've made it to seven hours and wasn't dead on battery life. Lumines? Probably would work even longer. However, I've got some really bad RPG type game that'll eat the battery as if it were starving to death. Three hours is about tops on that one. It's a matter of how often it accesses the UMD drive. So, if they've improved load times by a lot, that right there could increase battery life substantially with the right game.

battery life for the PSP is decided by how much it has to spin the UMD, and if it's using wi-fi.

I wonder if since they're "upgrading" the PSP, if they'll "upgrade" UMD casings so the damn things don't fall apart so easily.

i think that's why they might do the temp store thing so it'll save the UMD was being used....but how much can it actually store at a time will be the thing.

No. The increased onboard RAM will just be used as a buffer for the UMD. Before, the UMD would spin longer because it would take longer for the buffer RAM to clear. With more buffer RAM the UMD won't have to spin as much because it will be large enough to withstand the bandwidth of the transfer.

While it may be possible to do some kind of wireless video out, it will not be a requirement. They have been quoted and pictures taken of a wired solution for video output.

Plus, I don't think they have mentioned it yet, but i wouldn't be surprised if you could connect directly to the PS store via the PSP without a PS3 once the PSP slim comes out.

If they do that I would be utterly shocked. I'd love it, because it's my number one bitch about the PSP, but I just don't see Sony giving that one up. They see that as a sure-fire way to generate sales on the PS3. Though I have yet to find anyone who bought a PS3 so they can download games for their PSP. Come to think of it, I have yet to find anyone who's bought a PS3 in the real world.

Yeah, I guess we'll see. Like you said, I don't think this feature is moving any PS3s. If they are serious about their mobile platform then they will have to make the PS store available to the PSP. I guess the question is whether or not they are serious about the PSP.

    Very much agreed.

And if the TV-out is wired and not requiring of a PS3 I will be much more pleased. That'd give the PSP more basic Personal Video Player functionality. :D

I thought I had read somewhere that Sony was tinkering with a Playstation Store for PSP....sound familiar to anyone, or am I just making crap up and not realizing it?

I believe it was along the lines of "Eventually you'll be able to get on here through other means, but don't worry! For now you can all use your PS3s to get onto the store! :D "

Yeah, one of the folks during the 1-Up Yours podcasts also said something about a Playstation Store for the PSP this fall.
