The rumour mill is churning. DS gaing ground and the PS3 slipping to 07 may force Sony's hand to distract their audience with a slimmer, more functional PSP this winter PSP Redux?
if this is true, the ps3 is starting to look a lot like the n64. they are following up 2 successful console generations with a vastly more powerful one, but it's being delayed so much that it's going to give everyone else a chance to gain a foothold in the market before they even get out the door, so instead they'll distract people with a new version of the same thing while they wait, like nintendo did with it's play it loud series gameboys and the gameboy pocket.
Built in camera? No thanks. The 4 gigs would be nice, but if they did that they should just sell it only in white and rename it the iGame.
That's what I'm saying. They don't even need the redesign, just have a price drop and they will sell. One of the biggest points to the PSP competing with the DS other then the horsepower is the looks. And the look is awesome already. I don't see the need to redesign. If they can do $150 on the current PSP, it's going to sell A LOT.
what if the camera was like 4MP? or maybe it would be used for video chats? after the eyetoy, I don't put anything past sony's hardware division. they can be every bit as off the wall as nintendo or apple if they want to.
Gotta say... if they were to drop the price on a PSP I'd be inclined to pick it up. There's a few games on it that I'd like to play (GTA:LCS foremost among them) and I wouldn't mind having a portable movie device. The only thing I could think of as being beneficial in a redesign is a better battery with a longer life.
If a redesign is coming, and future games would make use of things such as a camera or the larger capacity, then I could dig it. The camera would be great for adding your face into the game such as hockey or soccer. Other than that, not sure if a redesign is really needed. I think a nice price drop would help out sales tremendously. But I'm not sure if it's possible if the system is still costing alot to build.
a psp is nice I wont deny that-hell I want one- but the price is a huge huge issue with me.I mean for crying outloud I bougth my cube in a closing store sale at 50 bucks and just because th price...yes Im that cheap. yes a price drop would help...ALOT
Looks like Microsoft's "gun jumping" may pay off in the long run if the PS3 does slip into 2007. As for the redesign, I'd hate to have to pick up another one if it's too good to pass up.
I think the redesign would be for ergonomic rather than aesthetic reasons. My hands cramp up after about half an hour of playing this thing.
maybe the new look will look like the prototype PSP....but yeah, a price drop on the current PSP and you'll see me with one.
Maybe they will add a second analog stick. But I'll wait and see the rumor mill means nothing. There were several rumors for the 360 that never happened such as a Dvd burner.
I don't know. A redesign of that calibur may alienate current users, and will split PSP users into a have/have not situation. Microsoft is doing similar by not making the HD standard. Nintendo may redesign the gameboy a lot, but have never (as far as I can recall) added major functionality to the system. You know if you are getting a GBA that it , hardware wise, it is the same machine as all the other GBAs. Regardless I'll believe it when I see it.
