Had me panicked for a moment there. Thought we were getting the next generation when I had just gotten a 5!
Given the supply problems and the economics, that would track. The PS3 also had an extended lifespan for similar reasons.
If this console can't act as a cup holder for people's beer and convert into a fully functional A.I unit I'm not interested. Playstaytion is worse than Nintendo, they never truly innovate, never introduce anything besides 'MORE POWER' ala Tool Man Taylor and they keep expecting you to re-buy every game for the new system instead of just making things backwards compatible. At least I can play most of the Games I want to on a Switch from past consoles.
I mean...don't rebuy the games you already have? Sony can expect all they want but I don't, and mostly haven't, rebought any game on prior gens. The emphasis on specs/power is for the tech nerds that knows what it takes to run a game. The average person has no clue what most of that stuff means. Most of this is moot anyway since if a player was a PC gamer they'd just upgrade their rig themselves and swap out the necessary parts. Even then, with advancements in tech being at the rate that it is, at a certain point you'd have to overhaul and get a new PC. It's why I console game instead of PC. The convenience of it all. I'm more concerned with if the PS5 will even be worth buying. I still don't have one and now we're four years away from the PS6. Might just skip the 5 at this point. Chances are good that they'll just re-release the PS5 versions on the 6 anyways
