Well, I had my PS3 on pause while I was checking out the Atl/Det game. I heard a couple of beeps then the PS3 then it shut off with the red light blinking. I've been searching online for fixes but are they worth it? Anybody had similar issues?

I thought red was X360 and yellow was PS3?

You're absolutely right, but when it first shuts down, it's red blinking.

Shit sucks. I actually fixed mine myself, and it worked great for... six months, maybe? Had to fix it again and that lasted two days.

At that point, I said fuck it and just got another PS3.

Thats what I'm worried about. I'll be pissed if I take the time and fix it, then it crashes again a couple days later.

Hopefully after the holidays, there will be a console bundle sale or something.

Yea, you should google it up. Seems like pretty much 100% of at home fixes are a temp. fix.

Yea my original ps3 had this problem. U can use a hot air hair blower to heat it up more and force the fans to kick on. Then the system will stay on for a temporary fix few weeks later it will do it again. I ended up buying a new system which has no backwards compatibility. Which sucks because I sold my ps1 and ps2 by then

I've been watching the videos Ronin0510 linked to. Looks straight-forward but I'm thinking about just buying a new one.

From my personal experience, it's not even worth the time, but at the same time, I hope that if you do it, you have a much better outcome long term.

My Ps3 recently crapped out too. But it was the Blu Ray player I think :( .

dang it, I was hoping it would be a more permanent fix by adding the thermal compound and re heating the soldering points.

Nope. But, on the plus side: While it's working again, it worked GREAT. More quiet and everything.

Lol I have to back up game saves and videos. So as long as I can do that, I guess I'll have to deal.

Hope not, I've only had my PS3 for 2 years, I don't wanna wait 5 years for a price drop like last time.

I've had my 60gb since release date, and "knocks on wood" have never had an issue besides the occasional freeze up. I use the crap out of it, not just for gaming, but as my sole blu-ray/DVD player. And I own a lot of blu-rays, almost 500. I own a boat load of DVDs too, but for the most part, they get no love. I must say, it is a very well built machine. Especially after owning and replacing 3 360s in 5 years. If it dies on me tomorrow, it still would have been a good purchase, even paying the release date price.
