So, I was reading in the figures you HATE thread that the prototype for Cybertron Leobreaker was way better than the actual release.

I looked it up and found a pic on TFWIKI and it makes Leobreaker look shittier than he already is... I mean he had an actual hand for Savage Claw mode(it wouldn't be to hard to use Unicron's hand to make one and hallow out the thighs...) and a much more complicated Cyber Key gimmick.

    http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Image:Leobreakerearly.jpg

So, are there any other figures that are like this that you know of?

HA Bumblebee was originally assembled like the waist mod makes him look

Also, I am going to ask Hasbro about an update to leobreaker using the original prototype at Botcon next year.

Might want to leave that to customizers.I can agree with the prototype of Leobreaker being better but the final one was ok but pales after looking at the prototype.

I dunno about actual/physical prototypes being better than what ends up getting mass released (don't many of these look shitty?), but I think it's safe to say that most of the promotional photos look way better than the figures themselves, and serve as a much better reflection of the photographers, editors & characters than what's actually in the box.

For example, lets take a look at the two photos below for Generations Kup that can be found in our Resources section.

Both ROTF Voyager Starscream and Leader Optimus were going to have features that were removed due to costs. I don't know if they made it to the prototype stage before the changes were made, though.

Yeah, Starscream had a hinge in the middle of his hands for transformation and pop out gattling guns, and Prime had articulated hands...

^ I would guess G2 Megatron. G1 Megatron repurposed an older toy.

You can blame Shoji Kawamori for being a dick who puts his own artistic pursuits first and will just quit on a design after it bores him. At least, that's the impression a lot of his stuff gives me... Awesome stuff marred by lazy designs in one or two areas that brings many figures down from what they should be.

For example, take a look at the Bandai DX VF-17 from Macross 7. The damned thing only has GERWALK knees without modification because he was too lazy to change the sculpting to allow the GERWALK knee to act as a normal knee in Battroid mode. It just reeks of laziness and/or quitting on the design prematurely. He did the same kind of bull with the MP Seeker mold and the "Samurai sword runners."

That's the deco guide for an unrealized mp megs. I would still love to see that figure realized.

    Not a prototype.

and from what I understand, that wasn't even something that was ever going to happen, and instead something created just to track down a leak.

Yesh, Optimus lost hand articulation (as stated by Rattraprules88), the ability for his leg box things to fold away, spliting tires and apparantly a slide in and out hand.

Starscream, lost hand article articulation and gun removal(again, stated by Rattraprules88) and movable knee caps.
