Protoforms

    Alright, so I was thinking bout the movie today and this came across my mind.
    Why are all the transformers that come to earth in protoform, why aren't they still in their cybertronian modes like megatron. Or is there even a difference between the two forms in the movie?

    my understanding is they have to become those pods so they need a new form from that.

    They have to be like that so they can get a new form, but mostly so they can travel through space safely. Megatron and Starscream are apparently some of the few capable of flying through space without becoming a protoform.
